Next up is a bottom half clash in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen taking on relegation haunted Cologne, at the Weserstadion, with a valuable three points at stake for both clubs.
Werder Bremen have lifted themselves out of immediate relegation danger themselves with some recent important wins over Schalke, Wolfsburg and Hamburg, along with a decent point in a 2-2 draw away at Borussia Moenchengladbach, and with just one defeat from their last five overall, Werder Bremen will be confident they can take something from this clash.
Bremen are not quite out of the woods yet though, as they are just two points above the relegation play-off spot, but the hosts have tightened things up considerably on home turf in recent times as they’re unbeaten in their last seven with an overall record of 4-4-4 13/13.
Cologne’s relegation worries deepened with a 3-2 defeat at home to Stuttgart last time out in the German top flight, and they have a tough trip to Werder Bremen ahead of them on Monday night where they’ll be looking to spring another surprise on their travels.
Cologne nicked all three points in a 2-1 win at sixth placed RB Leipzig last time out on the road, but this result has been their only highlight on their last six league matches overall, as they’ve been on the end of recent defeats to Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and the aforementioned Stuttgart.
An away record of 2-2-8 10/22 shouldn’t cause Werder Bremen too many problems, in addition to failing to score in 6 of their 12 away matches as well as keeping just two clean sheets on the road to date.
