Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig have enjoyed their seasons and show improvement from the previous campaign. This game may not have much meaning but both teams will want to end their league duties on a high.

Werder Bremen Preview

Werder finished in the bottom half of the table last season and although they are going to miss out on the European places, narrowly, there has definitely been further improvements in the team. The obvious indicator to that is that they already are eight points better off than last season’s haul and they will definitely finish in the top half of the Bundesliga. Werder can still finish as high as seventh which would be their best league position since 2010 when they claimed third spot. It’s testament to the job that Florian Kohfeldt has done at the club in the 18 months he’s been in charge and he’s yet another one of these fledging German coaches who have been so successful over the past few years. There are a number of younger players who have cemented their place in the team this season which bodes well for what’s to come, however the immediate aim is to get another three points from this season against a team they will be striving to compete with in the future. Bremen’s form of late has been very good with only two defeats in their last 16 league games. Last weekend’s 1-0 win away to Hoffenheim has put them to within a point of that opponent and came on the back of a 2-2 draw at home to title-chasing Borussia Dortmund – another big performance will be needed on Saturday to get a result.

RB Leipzig Preview

Leipzig recovered from something of a disappointing campaign last time around to have an excellent season in both league and cup. Ralph Ragnick took control of the first time for this season alone and has done a great job by leading the club to a very impressive and, it has to be aid, comfortable third place finish which means Champions League football for the new manager next term. Leipzig also have the German Cup final to look forward to next week where they will face Bayern Munich on their quest to win their first every major piece of silverware. That final will of course be the priority for Ragnick and he may well look to use this game to rotate his squad and give some of the players who have had a long, hard season some rest and a chance to freshen up. Regardless of what happens in tomorrow’s game it will not detract from how consistent Leipzig have been throughout 2018/19. The visitors are currently unbeaten in their last 15 league games and have won seven of their last eight away games.

Werder Bremen v RB Leipzig Betting Advice

Both managers will be very happy with how their seasons have shaped up and Saturday is an opportunity to celebrate that ahead of a well-earned, although Leipzig’s players will have to wait a further week for that. The sides last met shortly before Christmas and played out what turned out to be a candidate for game of the season. Leipzig eventually prevailed 3-2 at home after losing a two-goal lead before a late goal gave them all three points. It continued the trend between these clubs where the host team have never been beaten and it could well continue tomorrow.

Bremen’s home form has been excellent in the second half of the season and they have not lost at Weserstadion since the first of December when going down to league leaders Bayern. Since then they have won five and drawn four and it will be a run they are keen to continue. I’ve noted how well Leipzig have done since Christmas as well but there’s some doubt as to whether their motivation is going to be the same as their opponents who will want to have a winning send-off to their season and shown how capable they are against the best teams in this league, side with the home team once again in this fixture.
