Sunday’s hard-fought 1-0 win away in Freiburg – coming courtesy of Leonardo Bittencourt’s third goal of the season, which was exquisitely dispatched following a sweeping counter – should have restored some much-needed pride to the Werder Bremen (17th – W5 D6 L15, GF29 GA59) dressing room after losing meekly to Bayer Leverkusen in the preceding fixture. If anything, The Foals could not have wished for a more hospitable fixture with which to deliver their riposte. Their forthcoming hosts have been extremely poor on their own patch so far, which cannot be said for Gladbach on their travels.
