West Brom Preview – Will Baggies bounce back from just their second defeat of the season to reclaim top spot?

It’s not something they are used to under Slaven Bilic but West Brom lost out to Middlesbrough at the weekend which seen them drop to second in the league. Barring a monumental drop off it’s still very likely the Baggies will be playing Premier League football next season. It was just their second loss this season which shows how good and consistent they have been since Bilic came to the club. It was also a first loss at the Hawthorns so they will be delighted they have a chance to bounce back very quickly in front of their own supporters. And one that would be the perfect start to 2020 as a win would see them move back to top spot and three points clear of their title rivals.

No team has scored more goals than West Brom at home this season but it’s the number of goals they concede which Bilic may be slightly concerned and definitely frustrated at. The two goals conceded against ‘Boro mean they have now shipped 18 in 12 games. That puts increased pressure on the attack to continue to perform and when they have an off day, as they did on Sunday, it can go very wrong.

Leeds United Preview – Following a remarkable win away to Birmingham will Leeds cement their place at the top of the Championship?

It only be just past the halfway point in the Championship but it would be a brave (if not stupid) person to suggest that we have not already seen the best game of the season. Leeds’ 5-4 win away to Birmingham had everything you could ask for and also seen the Elland Road club move to the top of the table. Five different scorers for Leeds (including a helping hand from Birmingham) gave Marcelo Bielsa’s men their first win in four games, ending what has been a frustrating couple of weeks. Wednesday’s game now provides them with a huge opportunity to put some distance between themselves and their opponents in the title race.

Leeds conceded only 10 goals in the first 21 Championship games this season. They have since conceded the same number of goals in their last four. It’s something that Bielsa will be looking to rectify knowing full well that his team’s success in the first half of the season is down to how well organised they are. The last few games have shown how much more difficult it is to win games if you cant keep clean sheets in this division. They will have their work cut out to do that in this one but he will certainly be looking for them to defend better than Sunday.

Key-Facts – West Brom vs Leeds United

  • West Brom suffered only their second defeat of the season, and their first at home, when losing 2-0 to Middlesbrough on Sunday
  • Leeds took advantage of that West Brom defeat to go top after beating Birmingham 5-4 in an incredible game on the same day
  • A Kyle Bartley own-goal was the difference between the sides when they met at Elland Road at the beginning of October

West Brom vs Leeds United Betting Advice

It’s a mouthwatering clash for New Years Day and one that could go a long way to deciding who wins this season’s Championship. Only goal difference separates them at the moment whilst it was an own goal in Leeds’ favour which gave them the win when the teams met earlier in the campaign. It’s likely that tomorrow’s game will prove to be another hugely competitive affair by the two best teams in this division.

It’s been such a hectic period for both clubs but one that has featured a lot of goals in their respective games. Seven of West Brom’s last 10 have ended with both teams scoring as have Leeds’ last four. It would be no surprise to see the spoils shared but on the recent evidence it’s also one which should see some goals. Both teams to score is the pick at the Hawthorns.
