A revival is in full swing on Tyneside. Three consecutive Premier League victories, edging out Aston Villa and Leeds 1-0 either side of a rousing performance in their 3-1 win at home to Everton, enough for Newcastle to move four points clear of the bottom three having looked relegation fodder for much of the season. That was prior to the arrival of manager Eddie Howe whose team are now five league games unbeaten.

Only the two Manchester clubs are enjoying longer sequences in the league without defeat, which shows how drastic the transformation has been under former Bournemouth boss Howe. Momentum is undoubtedly with them. Although losing full-back Kieran Trippier, whose performances have stood as a catalyst for the team’s resurgent form, to injury could prove a telling blow in the weeks to come.
