West Ham Preview – Relegation not beyond Moyes’ uninspiring Hammers?

Had the club got its way, West Ham (16th – W7 D6 L16) wouldn’t have kicked another ball this season. Instead, they would rather have spent the past few months preparing for another term in the most lucrative domestic league in the world. So, with a team in disarray that is being kept out of the bottom three on goal difference alone, there may not be too many neutrals sad to see them relegated after such brazen self-interest.

Fortunately, The Hammers ultimately failed in their mission to have this season permanently curtailed. They must now fulfil their remaining league commitments, which begins at home to an upwardly-mobile Wolves who have won all three head-to-head encounters since the start of last season, before a London double-header against Chelsea and Tottenham. Not exactly a gentle re-introduction to Premier League football.

The lengthy break in play didn’t come without some football related benefits, though, as West Ham were hardly flying under David Moyes at the moment the league was halted in March. In fact their final game, losing 1-0 at the London Stadium to Arsenal, marked a third defeat in four having secured maximum points only once across their previous nine league fixtures (W1 D2 L6).

Wolves Preview – Top-four a realistic goal for Santo’s men?

A club who do strike all the right chords are Wolves (6th – W10 D13 L6). Competing on multiple fronts with minimal fuss; locking down their best and most promising assets to long-term deals; a side that plays without any fear or inferiority complex, as demonstrated on numerous occasions already this season. For a neutral, it is difficult not to be even slightly enamoured with how the club has conducted itself since returning to the top tier in 2018/19.

A push for the Champions League places is not only viable then, but entirely plausible. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were in good shape prior to the enforced break, collecting nine of the last fifteen available points to embark on a five-game (W2 D3) unbeaten streak, since losing in spirited fashion at home to runaway leaders Liverpool in January. Not having to contend with the distraction of the Europa League anytime soon is also a boost.

Meanwhile, Wolves’ most recent away skirmish was also in the capital, which saw them depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with an eye-catching 3-2 victory. According to Opta, not since 2012 have Wolves managed successive away victories in the Premier League. Something they can try to put right at West Ham, whom they beat 2-0 at Molineux earlier in the season to make it three wins in as many meetings.

West Ham Vs Wolves Betting Advice

The Hammers may be at home, however, what advantage that brings them is dubious considering their record at London Stadium (W4 D3 L7) reads worse than what Wolves have so far strung together on their travels (W5 D6 L3). Essentially, this fixtures pits the 18th-best home side against the 5th-best travellers in the Premier League. Back Wolves to make it four successive Premier League victories over West Ham.

West Ham Vs Wolves – Key Facts

  • It is two wins in eleven home Premier League games for West Ham (W2 D3 L6).
  • Wolves will return to Premier League action still unbeaten in the competition since a 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool in January (W2 D3).
  • Since the start of last season (2018/19), Wolves have played West Ham on three occasions in the Premier League and won all three times, winning 1-0 on their last visit to London Stadium.

Further value can be found in the To Nil market. Wolves can boast four clean sheets from their last five league games, but even more encouraging is the fact they’ve beaten West Ham without conceding a goal in all three meetings since the start of last season. Moreover, five of the six goals Wolves scored across those clashes were netted in the second half. Draw/Wolves is 9/2 (Bet365).
