It has been a frustrating season for the Wests Tigers. It continued as they suffered a loss against the struggling Titans last weekend. The Titans had been winless for the campaign prior to that.

The next challenge for the Tigers is at the Campbelltown Stadium, Sydney on Saturday as they meet the Canberra Raiders. The Raiders had their first taste of defeat this season, as they were beaten by the Knights last weekend.

Wests on the search for consistency

The Wests Tigers have alternated between a win and a loss in their four matches of this Premiership campaign. The wins were against the Cronulla Sharks and the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Both of those are in the bottom half of the ladder alongside the Titans, who the Wests Tigers lost against last weekend. That was some shock defeat they took as well having been heavy favourites.

This is no easy game in which to pick themselves up in, either. Head coach Michael Maguire has cut a frustrated figure so he has made some changes for the line up for this contest.

There are a total of five changes with the notable inclusions being Tommy Talau on the wing and Josh Reynolds at five-eighth. It’s basically a search for combinations and consistency at this point.

But they do have a positive in that they have won three of their last four games played at Campbelltown Stadium. The Wests Tigers have won 44% of all of their matches at the venue.

Last season they were bumped twice by the Raiders and the second of those losses was a 28-0 loss on home turf against them. Looking back a little further it has been six losses in their last seven against the Raiders.

Raiders in with a good chance of landing 2 points

The Raiders are big favourites for this contest. They were toppled last weekend 18-34 by the Newcastle Knights in what was a great contest.

That snapped the three-match winning streak that Canberra had been on from the start of the season, beating the Titans, Warriors and Storm in that sequence.

There’s a couple of things working for the Raiders here from a betting perspective. Firstly they have the head to head momentum, big momentum at that, over the Tigers.

But this season, while there is little between the two sides in putting points on the board in matches, the Raiders come out on top in defence. They have conceded just 13 points per game on average.

In contrast, the Wests Tigers have conceded at an average of 25 points per game.

Going back to the head to head all but one of Canberra’s last six wins against the Wests have been by a margin of at least 28 points. So we are talking huge margins in the handicap to size up.

Because of that we wouldn’t be too afraid to push things out to a Raiders -10 at 10/11 for the contest* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:49 GMT on Thursday, 11th June 2020).

Wests Tigers vs Canberra Raiders Betting Advice

The losses that the Wests Tigers have taken this season have been inexcusable really on their ambitions. That was a shocker last weekend that they had against the Titans.

They have had to have a good look at themselves and the changes were naturally going to come their starting line up. So they can’t bring the continuity to the table in this one.

Key Facts – Wests Tigers vs Canberra Raiders Betting Tip

  • Wests Tigers are W2 L2 this season
  • Wests Tigers have lost six of their last seven against the Raiders
  • Canberra Raiders are W3 L1 this season in the Premiership

We think that Canberra is definitely the best option to roll with in this one. They are a top four side and their loss against the surging Knights, who have beaten the Wests this season took, was no disgrace.

The cracks are there in the Wests Tigers in the defensive department. They have conceded almost twice as many points as the Raiders have done this season.

It’s the away win at a bold -10 handicap at 10/11* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:49 GMT on Thursday, 11th June 2020).
