Wigan Athletic will be keen to bounce back with a win on Tuesday night when they play host to bottom half outfit, Doncaster Rovers, at the DW Stadium following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to promotion rivals Bradford City.
With League One leaders, Shrewsbury Town beating Rotherham United 2-1 away from home, Wigan are now four points adrift of The Shrews at the top of the table, so the hosts will be desperate to maintain the pressure on the unlikely league leaders with a win tonight.
Prior to Saturday’s reverse, Wigan had put together a strong sequence of results which had seen them unbeaten in seven matches, winning five and drawing two, which has lifted them into one of the automatic promotion spots. The Latics still possess a good home record which stands at 6-2-1 16/4, and this includes six clean sheets to date.
Visitors Doncaster Rovers were held to a second stalemate on the trot on the weekend when they drew 0-0 away at Fleetwood Town, which followed a 1-1 draw with south Yorkshire rivals, Rotherham United the previous week.
Doncaster had previously suffered a pretty miserable time of it in League One as they’d lost seven of 10 league matches during August to mid-October, but Rovers have since turned things around with just one defeat from their last five overall.
That defeat came in a surprising 3-0 loss at home to Walsall, but recent wins over Portsmouth and Bury will have given them a welcome boost. However, results away from home still continue to be mixed, and their last two visits at top six clubs have both ended in defeat against Bradford City and Charlton Athletic respectively.
