There’s just the one fixture in League One on Tuesday evening with hosts, Wigan Athletic, taking on Northampton Town at their DW Stadium with both teams in reasonable nick ahead of tonight’s clash.
Wigan registered a second league win on the trot on Saturday when they saw off Bristol Rovers in a 3-0 win at home, which followed a 3-0 win away at Charlton Athletic in the match before. The Latics will therefore be in a confident frame of mind as they’re now unbeaten in their last three at home having also beaten Bury 4-1 earlier.
Paul Cook’s side currently occupy fifth place, but all three points tonight would see them jump into second spot behind League One leaders, Shrewsbury Town. The Latics are also unbeaten at home to date with a record of 2-1-0 8/2, with forwards Massey (3 goals) and Toney (2 goals) getting amongst the goals early on.
Visitors Northampton Town extended their unbeaten run in League One to three matches on Saturday when they earned a point in a 2-2 draw away at Southend United, on the back of two wins on the trot previously, over Doncaster Rovers and Portsmouth.
Although Northampton Town currently reside in the bottom half of the division, The Cobblers are slowly gaining some momentum under new manager, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who has previously plied his trade at Burton Albion and QPR.
And despite Wigan Athletic being installed as favourites to win this match by the bookies, I sense there’s some value to be had in backing both teams to score here, as recent results suggest both are capable of hitting the back of the net.
