Wigan Preview – Can Wigan put their off-the-field troubles behind them and get a hugely important win?

The deplorable way in which the recent sale of Wigan has been handled will overshadow anything that happens on the park between now and the end of the season. Due to going into administration, the Lactics face a 12 point deduction which would see them fall into the bottom three and six points from safety. It’s a huge contrast from having won won their first three games following the Championship resumption.

That run appeared to have eased any relegation fears and had Wigan on course for a mid-table finish. Now, the chances are Paul Cook and his players are going to have to pick up at least three victories to have any chance of staying in the league.

Saturday’s trip to Brentford ways always going to be a difficult task because of how well the Bees are doing but especially so being the first game since the announcement was made. A 3-0 defeat is not going to do much for confidence and it will be challenging for the players to try and ignore what is happening with so much uncertainty.

Wigan’s home form has been very strong of late with only one defeat in their last seven. They’ve won four of them including their last two when scoring five and keeping two clean sheets.

QPR Preview – Will ‘Rangers make it two consecutive away victories for the first time since September?

It may be prolonged somewhat due to the global pandemic but Mark Warburton’s first full season in charge is nearing an end at Loftus Road. It looks likely that QPR will finish just below the top half which is an improvement on last season. Warburton would have been happy to get back to winning ways with the 1-0 win away to Middlesbrough at the weekend. That Was ‘Rangers first success since coming back.

You have to go all the way back to September for the last time QPR managed to win two consecutive away games. They have a chance to improve on that record tomorrow.

Jordan Hughill has been an invaluable loan signing for QPR this season, netting his 13th goals of the season in the win over ‘Boro. It’s his best total in a season so far and has made a massive contribution to keeping the club away from danger. Along with Eberechi Eze’s 12 goals, the due have combined for 25 of QPR’s 60 Championship goals.

Scoring goals has not been an issue for Warburton’s men, it’s at the other end where they have struggled. Their concession of 66 goals is the joint-third worst in the division.

Wigan vs QPR Betting Advice

This game has taken on so much important for Wigan following their move into administration. A lot of support has emerged from across the game because of their plight but Cook knows that the future will look much brighter in the Championship and will be going all out to secure their status in this league.

QPR have already shown with their win at the Riverside they are only focused on themselves rather than issues at the bottom of the table and have already beaten Wigan this season with a 3-1 success at home.

Key Facts – Wigan vs QPR Betting Tip

  • If a 12-point deduction is imposed on Wigan they will fall into the bottom three with five games to go
  • QPR picked up their first win since football resumed with a 1-0 win away to Middlesbrough
  • It was a comfortable 3-1 win for ‘Rangers when the sides met at Loftus Road back in August

Wigan were one of the form teams in the Championship before the news of administration broke and whilst it is bound to have some sort of impact on the players, it would be foolish to side against them on the back of the defeat to Brentford. They can bounce back here for a fifth win in eight home games.
