Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview – Wolves to edge past Saints?

Ever since gaining promotion to the Premier League as EFL Championship winners, Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolverhampton Wanderers have impressed in the top flight. However, Wolves have found life tough going at times this term.

Wanderers are down in 14th spot at present, collecting just 27 points from 23 games. The Midlands outfit have already lost ten times in the Premier League, winning seven and drawing six of the other 13. Wolves’ win over Arsenal at the start of the month was only their second league victory since November.

Nuno’s boys edged past Chorley in round four, with Vitor Ferreira’s 12th-minute goal giving them a 1-0 win at Victory Park. In the previous round, Wolves beat Premier League counterparts Crystal Palace at Molineux by the same scoreline. Wanderers may be in poor form, but the hosts are the favourites on their own patch on Wednesday.

Southampton Preview – Can Hasenhuttl’s troops avoid fifth straight defeat?

Southampton have had a miserable week. The Saints were hammered 9-0 by Manchester United in the Premier League last Tuesday, which they followed up with a 3-2 defeat at Newcastle United. They have lost five on the bounce in league action.

Since securing back-to-back FA Cup wins over Shrewsbury Town and Arsenal, Southampton have gone on to lose four Premier League games in a row. As a result of their poor run of results, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have dropped out of the top half of the table to 12th.

Southampton would love to get back on track with victory in the FA Cup in midweek. However, the south coast club head to the Midlands as the 21/10 second favourites with the bookies.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Southampton Betting Advice

Back in November, Nuno’s Wolves and Hasenhuttl’s Saints played out a 1-1 Premier League draw at Molineux. Theo Walcott opened the scoring, with Pedro Neto levelling for the hosts. Wanderers have had Southampton’s number in recent years, losing just one of the previous ten league and cup meetings.

Key Facts – Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Southampton Betting Tip

  • Wolves have won just one of their last ten Premier League matches
  • Southampton have lost five league games in a row
  • Wanderers and the Saints drew 1-1 in the league at Molineux in November

With neither side in good form, this FA Cup clash could go either way. However, even though the Saints are above Wolves in the current Premier League standings, we fancy Nuno’s men to edge a tight tie on home soil. Have a punt on the Wolves win and both teams to score at 4/1.

Pedro Neto was on target when the teams met in the Premier League a few months back. Check out the decent odds of 13/2 for Wolves’ No. 7 to score first in this one.
