WOLVES v BIRMINGHAM CITY

Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

High noon on Sunday sees a crucial west midlands derby between Wolves and Birmingham City with both teams needing the points in their respective bids for promotion and relegation battles at either end of the Championship league table.

With Fulham being held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford at Craven Cottage on Saturday, Wolves have now been guaranteed promotion up to the Premier League as they hold an unassailable 10 point lead over Fulham with the London club having just three league matches remaining of the season.

The atmosphere will resemble something of a party mood as the hosts celebrate their long-awaited return to the top flight, and having won five of their last six matches overall, they’re coming home with a wet sail with a very strong home record of  15-4-2  45/18 behind them, they’ve been head and shoulders above the rest of the competition in the Championship this term.

Recent wins over Reading, Burton Albion, Middlesbrough, Cardiff City and Derby County have helped steady the ship at just the right time and Wolves have fully deserved their promotion.

What visitors Birmingham City would give to be in Wolves’s position though as they make the short trip to Molineux as they look to spoil the party in this local derby as The Blues continue their desperate fight against relegation at the bottom end of the Championship.

Three consecutive wins over Hull City, Ipswich Town and Bolton Wanderers seemed to have handed Garry Monk’s side a valuable relegation lifeline and they held a five point margin over the bottom three, but dropping two points against Burton Albion in a 1-1 draw at St Andrews along with a heavy 3-1 defeat away at Bristol City have ensured it’ll be another tense season run-in for Birmingham.

They now face a triumphant Wolves outfit, and Birmingham will no doubt be hoping that the hosts suffer the well-known anti-climax of gaining promotion as the visitors seek to record just their fourth away win of the entire season.

An away record of  3-4-14  16/39 is woeful to be honest, and this includes a worrying sequence of five defeats from their last six on their travels, but this is derby day and Birmingham have arguably the greater incentive for taking the points here.

I believe this could be a hard-fought derby with the possibility of it ending up a draw.
