A 0-0 stalemate away at Southampton on the opening day of the season has been their only respite from a poor start for Sean Dyche’s men as they’ve lost three on the bounce with defeats to Watford, Fulham and Manchester United.
Burnley’s involvement in the Europa League though has perhaps muddied the waters for Dyche’s men as they were fighting on two fronts, following a good run with wins over Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen 4-2 on aggregate and a 1-0 aggregate win over Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir.
However, a 4-2 aggregate loss to Olympiakos, while disappointing for the visitors and the financial windfall associated with the competition, now gives them a chance to focus on top flight survival.
