Preview: Struggling Burnley are still anxiously looking over their shoulder in their quest to avoid the drop, after losing each of their last three games. Will they find any solace at Molineux, then, where opponents Wolves have not beaten them in any of their past four Premier League meetings?

Wolves – Can Santo’s men make it a hat-trick of wins?

On his 11th appearance for the club since arriving on loan from Real Sociedad in January, Willian Jose finally has his first goal in England. The Brazilian forward sweeping home Adama Traore’s cross last time out to condemn bottom club Sheffield United to relegation, after a 1-0 defeat at Molineux. As for Wolves (W11 D8 L13), all of a sudeen a top-half finish looks on, now four points shy of Leeds in tenth.

That was a second 1-0 win in as many games, having beaten Fulham by that same scoreline at Craven Cottage in their previous league outing, giving them back-to-back wins for only the third time this season. However, on the previous two occasions they were in this position, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men subsequently drew their next fixture. Last registering three wins on the spin in June 2020.

They would also suffer back-to-back home defeats prior to last week’s unconvincing success against one of the Premier League worst ever sides, losing narrowly to top-four aspirants Liverpool and West Ham. Wolves do retain a solid record (W6 D4 L6) in the West Midlands, though. Arsenal, Chelsea and Leeds all lost at Molineux this term, while high-flying Leicester, as well as Tottenham, had to settle for a point.

Burnley – Goals flow in the absence of wins?

For only the second time this season, Burnley (W8 D9 L15) have lost three consecutive Premier League games. The Clarets were beaten 3-1 on the road by Manchester United last week, a result which followed 3-2 and 2-1 defeats to Southampton and Newcastle, respectively, despite Sean Dyche seeing his team open the scoring in the latter two. They’ve not lost four consecutively, however, since January 2020.

Sean Dyche will certainly be hoping he can avoid a repeat of the above. His team played well in spurts at Old Trafford, and even thought they took the lead inside 14 seconds through the in-form Chris Wood, only for VAR to rule out what would have been an eighth goal of the campaign for the New Zealander. In the end it was only the second game in five that Wood had failed to locate the back of the opposing net.

While the points have evidently dried up – they’ve won only once in nine league games (D4 L4), losing three of the last four away – the goals keep on flowing. Each of their last six Premier League games has seen at least one goal scored by both teams. Meanwhile Burnley, so often renowned for their workmanlike defensive approach, have recorded one clean sheet (0-0 vs West Brom) in seventeen league games in 2021.

Wolves Vs Burnley Betting Advice

For the third time this season, Wolves are attempting to string three consecutive wins together in the league. They failed on the previous two occasions, drawing the third fixture both times, but will like their chances against a Burnley side verging on a fourth successive defeat. The Clarets boast a decent record in this fixture, though, losing only one of their nine previous meetings since 2012 (W4 D4 L1).

Wolves Vs Burnley – Key Facts:

  • Four of the past seven meetings between these clubs ended in a draw, including last season’s corresponding fixture at Molineux (1-1).
  • Burnley did win earlier in the season, though, courtesy of a 2-1 scoreline at Turf Moor. They arrive on Sunday, however, having won only once in nine Premier League games (W1 D4 L4).
  • Wolves are bidding to win three league games on the trot for the first time since June 2020, though do struggle to score – netting one goal or none in seven of their past eight top-flight matches.

Two of the last three encounters between the sides at Molineux produced a draw, including last season (1-1), and I think that bet requires serious consideration. Wolves have scored more than once in one of their past eight Premier League games, which suggests this could be low-scoring. Meanwhile, five of Burnley’s nine draws this season have come since February. Admittedly, all five were at Turf Moor.
