Wolves – Lack of goals giving Santo cause for concern?
After claiming a 3-0 victory at Molineux when these teams last met, in July 2020, Wolves (W6 D4 L7) are now seeking to win consecutive matches against Everton for the first time since 1979. They do so having lost only one of their six (W2 D3 L1) previous home Premier League meetings against the Toffees, the latter’s sole triumph at this ground being a 3-0 scoreline of their own doing back in April 2011.
History should breed confidence then, but do Nuno Espirito Santo’s team’s recent displays offer the same? Friday’s slender win here in the FA Cup over a much changed Crystal Palace was encouraging in the sense that it secured them progress into the next round, however, it was also the seventh match in the last eight in which Wolves had failed to notch more than one goal, winning just twice in this spell (W2 D2 L4).
A 3-3 draw away to Brighton, in their most recent league encounter, was an outlier therefore. It also extended their winless run in the league to four (D2 L2), since coming from behind at home to beat Chelsea last month. They held Spurs to a 1-1 draw in their very next home fixture, while it is important to note how they have lost only one of the last seven home games in the competition, conceding just five.
Everton – Ancelotti to celebrate third straight away success?
Already this season, Everton (W9 D2 L5) have twice been in a position to record five consecutive Premier League victories only to come up short both times. The latest effort saw them come unstuck against a plucky West Ham, the East Londoners prevailing 1-0 in a war of attrition inside Goodison Park on New Year’s day. That a first loss since November for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who were unbeaten in five beforehand.
Perhaps the Toffees were guilty of feeling sorry for themselves in their next outing, hardly covering themselves in glory as they laboured to an extra-time FA Cup win against Championship side Rotherham on Saturday. However, their recent improvements in the league have earned them a rise to seventh in the table, level on points with fourth placed Tottenham and those coveted Champions League berths.
Positive strides have certainly been made defensively. Between October and November, Everton shipped two or more goals in six successive league fixtures but have since conceded four in the seven games that followed. No more keenly has this been felt than on their travels, recording three wins and a draw from their last four Premier League away matches having beaten both Leicester and Sheffield United to nil.

Wolves Vs Everton Betting Advice
With both securing safe passages through to the FA Cup fourth round over the weekend, confidence should be high at Molineux on Tuesday. Wolves will be feeling the more confident based on their record here in this fixture, losing one of the past six Premier League meetings as the home side having won 3-0 in 2019/20. It is Everton, however, in the better form, boasting four wins and only one loss from their last six league matches.
Wolves Vs Everton – Key Facts:
- Only Sheffield United (20) are currently enduring a longer wait for a Premier League clean sheet than Wolves, who are without a win in four (D2 L2).
- However, Wolves have lost once at home in the league in the last seven such matches (W3 D3 L1). Everton are unbeaten in four away (W3 D1).
- Everton’s solitary victory across six Premier League visits to Wolves came in April 2011, with Wolves’ 3-0 win last season ending a run of two straight draws at Molineux.
The Toffees also arrive having won three of the last four as visitors, while to nil victories in the last two of those – against Leicester and Sheff Utd – mean they are bidding to record three straight away wins without conceding for the first time in the competition since 2008. However, no visiting side has netted more than once at Molineux since Man City in September. A tight and tactical affair therefore beckons.
