English Premier League
Pick: LIVERPOOL WIN & UNDER 2.5 GOALS
Odds: 29/10

Preview: Technically, Liverpool are in last place in this fascinating three-way title race and could even discover that they are as many as five points from leaders Chelsea by the time their match with Wolves gets underway at Molineux on Saturday evening. Fortunately though, the Reds’ record in this fixture is excellent, winning here on each of their past five visits.

Wolves – Lack of firepower holding them back?

It felt like two points dropped. However, Wolves manager Bruno Lage could still see the positives in Wednesday’s 0-0 scoreline at Molineux versus a Burnley side still very much entrenched in the relegation zone. Dominant with the ball (more than 60% possession) but less so using it, Wanderers found the target only twice from sixteen attempts as they rather limped through a dour contest creating a mere 0.82 xGF.

That was their second goalless stalemate on the bounce, though, after failing to trouble a struggling Norwich City at Carrow Road in their previous outing. It was also the third game in four creating less than 1xGF. All of which is rather unsurprising about a side that remains rock-solid defensively, conceding the same number as Sunday’s opponents this season (12), but are too often found wanting in attacking areas.

Yet the lack of goals is a big cause for concern. Only Norwich are averaging fewer than Wolves’ 0.86 goals-per-game figure this season, while that is now one goal scored in four league games (W1 D2 L1). At least here at Molineux they can lean on a very dependable record. After losing their first three Premier League home games to nil, Wolves are currently unbeaten in four (W3 D1) at their Black Country residence.

Liverpool – Rampant Reds continue to stalk league leaders?

Four straight wins in all competitions for Liverpool since sustained their only loss of the campaign so far, that being their 3-2 loss away at West Ham at the beginning of November. The only blemish in this time was Demarai Gray’s consolation in the Reds’ midweek 4-1 Merseyside derby triumph away at Everton, with the Everton winger denying Jurgen Klopp’s men a fourth consecutive ‘win to nil’.

Despite racking up the wins of late, Klopp will recognise the importance of adding another three points to their tally on Saturday. Liverpool remain third in the table – two shy of leaders Chelsea and a point off Man City – despite losing one league game all season, scoring 43 times in just 14 fixtures (that ten more than next best Chelsea) and boasting the best goal difference (+31) in the division.

Ominously for their hosts this weekend, Liverpool have scored two or more in eleven consecutive top-flight matches. Scoring at least three in eight. Even more ominous, however, is their record at this particular venue, which has certainly been a favourite of theirs through the years. The Reds are unbeaten across all seven Premier League visits to Molineux (W5 D2), winning each of the last in a row.

Wolves Vs Liverpool Betting Advice

Can Wolves end their Molineux hoodoo against Liverpool? The Reds are unbeaten across all seven Premier League encounters at this venue; having drawn the first two of these, the team from Merseyside have subsequently reeled off five successive victories. And yet our hosts are in the sort of form, with one loss in nine league games, that hints at this being a potentially awkward outing for Jurgen Klopp’s title hopefuls.

Wolves Vs Liverpool – Key Facts:

  • Liverpool are seeking their sixth consecutive win away to Wolves in the Premier League, with four of these victories earned without so much as conceding a goal.
  • Wolves have been playing well recently though. They have lost one of the last nine league games and remain unbeaten across their last four at home (W3 D1).
  • Liverpool are a different beast however, and the Reds arrive in sensational condition having won 9 of 11 competitive away matches this term (D1 L1), scoring 3+ in 10.

Wolves haven’t lost a home league game since mid-September (W3 D1), a run that includes a 1-0 win over a West Ham side who remain the only team to have beaten Liverpool in any competition this season. Moreover, Bruno Lage has seen his team limit seven visiting teams to just six goals between them. So while I suspect Liverpool will prevail, their record of scoring 2+ in 18 successive matches could be in doubt.
