No team has won the competition more than Sevilla but they will have to be at their best if they are to defeat Wolves on their quest for a sixth triumph in the Europa League.

Wolves Preview – Are Wolves set to continue their European adventure and record a huge win in the process?

It’s been well documented that Wolves’ 2019/20 Europa League campaign started over a year ago and they will be aiming to prolong it for another 10 days as it would ensure they are playing in the final on the 21st of this month. To achieve that they are going to have to do it the hard way. First up is the most successful club in competition history and if they win that it’s likely they will face Manchester United in the semi-final.

It’s the level of team that you expect to face at this stage of a major European competition but with the revised format it’s going to be very challenging.

Having missed out on all the European spots via domestic competition, the only hope of Wolves playing in Europe next season requires them to win this and compete in the Champions League. That is ultimately the aim of the club’s owners and they have acquitted themselves well in the Europa League in this campaign.

The win over Olympiakos was hard-fought and against the classiest opposition they have faced but it again proved  how well organised Wolves are and their ability to hold on to a lead when they get in front.

Sevilla Preview – Will the five-time winners show their worth once again make progress to the semi-finals?

Unlike their opponents tomorrow, Sevilla are already guaranteed to be playing in the Champions League next season following their fourth placed finish in La Liga. That was the first objective of Julen Lopetegui when he took the job last summer and he achieved it with the minimum of fuss. Sevilla ended up 10 points clear of fifth placed Villareal. Now attention turns to continental matters as the hunt for a sixth Europa League title.

Sevilla’s domination of the competition between 2014-16 is unprecedented and adds to their earlier two titles in 2006 and 2007. Five titles in 16 years is an incredible feat and they will hope they can move a step closer to another with a win here.

APOEL are the only team to have beaten Sevilla in this year’s Europa League as the Spaniards have won six of nine and keeping clean sheets in the same number of matches. Whilst the format is new for most Sevilla do have some experience of the one-legged knockout matches having beaten Roma last week under the same circumstances.

The win over the Serie A giants was very impressive and shows that despite their Champions League qualification they are most certainly targeting yet more European success.

Wolves vs Sevilla Betting Advice

Sevilla may be the favourites for this game but there’s an argument to be made that it’s Wolves who are in most need of progressing. Their model requires regular European football and if they go out here then they will have failed in that respect.

What this tie does do is bring together two of the best defences in this year’s competition. Sevilla have only conceded four goals in nine games whilst Wolves have allowed 13 in their 16 games but did keep six clean sheets in eight home matches. And they will approach this game in a similar way,

Key Facts – Wolves vs Sevilla Betting Tip

  • Wolves contested the first ever final of the then UEFA Cup only losing to Tottenham over the two legs
  • Sevilla’s last success in the competition came back in 2016 which was their third consecutive win
  • This will be the first time the teams have met in a competitive fixture

With both teams playing very similar styles – and with it being decided in one game – we could see something of a stalemate. It may not be what the neutral wants to see but I’m backing under 2.5 goals which has been a winner in Sevilla’s last five Europa League games.
