Preview: At Molineux on Saturday, Wolves are aiming to make home advantage count as they look to record their third straight Premier League win in front of their own fans. With West Ham targetting a fifth consecutive league win though, that will be easier said than done.

Wolves – Lesson will have been learnt from Palace setback?

Bruno Lage will have had a fortnight to process what went wrong in Wolves’ latest encounter, a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Quite simply, they weren’t at the races that day, with the scoreline entirely in keeping with the respective Expected Goals figures (CPA 1.97 – 0.32 WOL). That was easily their worst performance of the season, and a repeat against high-flyers West Ham could spell trouble.

Wolves have won their last two at Molineux, beating Everton and Newcastle by the same 2-1 scoreline. They remain in the red in these parts, though, after failing to even conjure up a goal as they opened the new term with three successive home defeats to Brentford, Man Utd and Tottenham. However, they probably deserved more from those games having won the xG battle in three of said losses.

Wanderers are unlikely to be pushovers this weekend then, despite welcoming the league’s most in-form outfit. Wolves did lose home and away to The Hammers in 2020-21, though. 3-0 down inside 38 first-half minutes at Molineux, they would eventually rally in a 3-2 loss that leaves staring down the prospect of successive home league defeats against West Ham for the first time since 1922.

West Ham – Moyes’ men thriving on their travels?

Last time out West Ham turned in unquestionably their most outstanding collective performance of the season to turn over Liverpool 3-2 at London Stadium. And while they weren’t exactly successful in their attempts to rein in the division’s most potent attack, the fact they managed to outscore a team that had netted three or more in its opening five away league games, is deserving of plaudits all on its own.

That they did conceded twice almost felt harsh on them, having remained defensively compact and extremely well-organised throughout. The Hammers are up into third – a point above Liverpool and only three off leaders Chelsea – on the back of what was their fourth straight win in the league. Perhaps even more remarkable, however, is that they are currently outscoring reigning champions Man City by 23 to 22.

Maintaining all this positive momentum is now key. No team in the top-flight has more points than the 13 (W4 D1) of West Ham away from home this season (the same total as Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City who are all considered title contenders). Moreover, they are unbeaten across their last eleven away fixtures in all competitions, winning the last three in the league away to Aston Villa, Everton and Leeds.

Wolves Vs West Ham Betting Advice

Following up their stunning victory over Liverpool was never likely to be easy and a visit to Wolves, a side quietly having a decent season so far, is another stern test for a West Ham outfit that is suddenly being talked up as top four candidates. A fifth consecutive league win would only strengthen those claims, and having won a five-goal thriller at Molineux last season, there really isn’t anything for the Hammers to fear.

Wolves Vs West Ham – Key Facts:

  • Whereas Wolves are seeking their third successive Premier League home win, West Ham are out to extend their current run of five consecutive victories in the competition.
  • West Ham will be confident of doing just that after flying out of the traps in this fixture last term. That 3-2 success ended a three-game winless run as the away side in this fixture.
  • Jarrod Bowen has scored three times from two appearances versus West Ham. Meanwhile, Michail Antonio has never scored in this fixture in nine attempts.

Wolves will have their own ideas, of course. They were in excellent form prior to a recent 2-0 loss at Crystal Palace, winning four and drawing one of their previous five Premier League games to climb into the top half of the table. Their record at home is mixed (W2 L3), however they only really deserved to lose one of those. Interestingly, there hasn’t been a draw between the sides in seven league meetings, but I cannot split them.
