Wycombe – Winless run verging on double figures?

On Tuesday night, Wycombe (W2 D5 L12) fell to the same fate as seven of the ten teams to have visited the Vitality Stadium this season, as the promoted outfit were beaten 1-0 by Bournemouth. The Cherries were in red hot form, having won six from the last nine – including three of the previous four on home soil – and so last season’s League One play-off winners done well to limit the damage.

Particularly once they were reduced to ten men just past the hour mark, which, at that stage, they were still in the contest with the score goalless. The hosts went in front within minutes though, and it was an uphill struggle thereafter for The Chairboys, creating very little overall (xG: BOU 3.14 – 0.41 WYC). They’ve now lost three league games on the spin and, in turn, extended their winless run to nine (D4 L5).

Goals have been especially scarce at Adams Park meanwhile, where Gareth Ainsworth has overseen one Championship victory all season (W1 D3 L5). That against a Sheffield Wednesday side currently keeping Wycombe off the bottom of the table. Encounters here at usually tight, however: seven of nine featuring no more than two match goals, while only Swansea (2-0 in September) won by a margin greater than one.

QPR – Rs seeking first league win in seven?

Mark Warburton saw his side pick up only a second point in six Championship fixtures on Tuesday as his Queens Park Rangers (W4 D7 L8) outfit produced an uncharacteristically solid defensive display in their goalless affair with Stoke at Loftus Road. Now known as the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, the Rs held their own up against a promotion aspirant that had netted once in three previous away matches.

It is probably best not reading too much into midweek therefore (xG: QPR 1.05 – 0.52 STO), especially as Stoke were missing their most influential attacker. Warburton was nonetheless enthused by what he saw. Perhaps it had more to do with the shock of seeing his side keep a first clean sheet in nine since a 1-0 win at Derby in November. The Rams, it must be said, are the lowest scorers in the division.

The target now, however, will be halting a six-game winless run (D2 L4) stretching back to 24th November when edging a five-goal thriller 3-2 at home to Rotherham. Rangers have since netted just three times, two of which in losing efforts to Brentford and Bristol City. Meanwhile, their record on the road (W1 D3 L5) is among the very worst at this level, their sole triumph that aforementioned clash at goal shy Derby.

Wycombe Vs QPR Betting Advice

A huge fixture towards the wrong end of the Championship sees two teams who have found winning games of football impossible lately meet inside Adams Park. Wycombe have managed one win from their nine home games so far this season (W1 D3 L5), but will fancy their chances of doubling that tally against a QPR side which has lost more than half of its away league fixtures in 2020/21 (also W1 D3 L5).

Wycombe Vs QPR – Key Facts:

  • There have been less than three goals scored in seven of the nine Championship fixtures played at Adams Park in 2020/21, with Wycombe winning one only of these matches (W1 D3 L5).
  • Five of the nine away games involving QPR concluded with no more than two goals scored. The Rs netting on average 0.78 goals-per-game on their travels this season.
  • Neither team enter into this fixture in any positive form whatsoever. Wycombe are winless in nine (D4 L5) whereas QPR are now six games without a win (D2 L4).

Adams Park has seen many a dour affair this season, with five of nine games here producing Under 1.5 Goals and only two going Over 2.5. Meanwhile, Wycombe haven’t contributed more than one goal in a home match-up all season long – but that could all change against QPR. The Rs conceding in seven of nine away matches this term, and have shipped two or more on five occasions. I’ll back the hosts to get a result.
