Wycombe Wanderers Preview – Can Wycombe end a run of seven games without a win and get three vital points?

It’s no surprise to see Wycombe occupy one of the relegation spots at this stage of the season. Playing in the second tier of English football for the first time in their history, Gareth Ainsworth and his players will have to go some if they are to make that a second. The Chairboys are second bottom with 11 points and only a Sheffield Wednesday team who started with a points deduction are below them.

With only two wins in their 17 matches so far you already fear the worst for them but the are just a couple of points off safety and it does look like being three teams from a possible five who will go down. So there is hope.

Wycombe’s home form will have to improve if they are to get out this situation. One win and three draws from eight games is not going to be good enough over the course of a season. That solitary victory was against Sheffield Wednesday ironically enough. Where Ainsworth will take some hope from is that they have become harder to beat at Adams Park with just one defeat in their last five.
Wanderers are hoping to score their first goal at home since the 31st of October, however.

Coventry City Preview – Are Coventry set to continue their good form by stretching their unbeaten run seven matches?

Coventry were impressive champions of League One last season and they have taken the jump to Championship level in their stride so far. Mark Robins has overseen two promotions in his three and a bit years in his second spell at the club but if he can consolidate the club in this league then it will outdo anything he has done to date. Particularly as the club continue to ground share without a permanent home.

The Sky Blues head to Wycombe on Saturday unbeaten in their last six games and that’s a run which has seen them pull clear of the relegation zone with a six point cushion.

Although they have drawn four of those six unbeaten games it’s valuable points and considering they had lost six of their eight matches before then, it’s a significant improvement and perhaps an indication that they are find their feet in the division.

Coventry are particularly impressing at St Andrew’s just now which acts as their home stadium. All four of their wins have come there meaning they remain in search of their first away victory of the campaign. They have taken points at Derby and Norwich in recent weeks.

Wycombe Wanderers vs Coventry City Betting Advice

This is already a significant game in the season for Wycombe. If they lose it then they would be 10 points adrift of a team who they were promoted alongside just a few months ago. That would be serious blow for them and their hopes of staying in the league, even this early on. Coventry have been very steady of late but they are not great travellers.

Robins and his players will take a lot of confidence from the fact Coventry have beaten Wycombe in all of their last eight meetings so it’s a fixture they have excelled in.

Key Facts – Wycombe Wanderers  vs Coventry City Betting Tip

  • Wycombe’s solitary home success this season has come again the only team currently below them
  • Coventry have put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone with 10 points from six matches
  • Coventry have won the last eight meetings against Wycombe

You have to admire what Ainsworth has done on such a small budget to get to this level but it does appear a step too far. Coventry are improving game by game just now and although this game is likely to be tight, I fancy the Sky Blues to get their first away win of the season.
