Gareth Ainsworth’s Wycombe Wanderers welcome Paul Warne’s Rotherham United to Adams Park in EFL Championship action this Saturday. The pair know an awful lot about each other having both been promoted from EFL League One last term. Wanderers won the play-offs, while the Millers finished runners-up to Coventry City. Which way will this fascinating Championship fixture go at the weekend? We have the latest odds and tips.

Wycombe Wanderers Preview – Can the Chairboys secure first ever Championship win?

Saturday’s clash at Adams Park will be historic for Wycombe Wanderers, who have never played in the Championship before. Gareth Ainsworth, who has been at the club since 2009, has done a remarkable job in Buckinghamshire since taking over as manager in 2012.

Wycombe finished the regular season in third. They would have fancied their chances of automatic promotion, but, as we all know, the season was cut short in League One. They eased past Fleetwood Town in the semi-finals before beating Oxford United 2-1 in the League One play-off final at Wembley Stadium in July.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score
7/10

Naturally, Wycombe are the favourites for an instant return to the third tier. Before a ball has been kicked this season, Wanderers are available at just 8/15 for relegation and 7/1 to be the most successful promoted team. Nevertheless, that will not bother the Chairboys one iota.

Wycombe will enjoy their first season in the Championship but staying up will be their ultimate goal. Can Ainsworth’s men start with three points at Adams Park this weekend?

Rotherham United Preview – Can the Millers pick up a positive result at Adams Park?

Rotherham United have had a few unsuccessful seasons in the Championship in recent years; can the Millers stay in the second tier this time? Before their season opener at Wycombe, Rotherham are priced at 2/1 for the drop.

Paul Warne did an excellent job at the New York Stadium last season. The Millers finished runners-up to Coventry City in the 2019-20 League One campaign, racking up an impressive 62 points from 35 games. United won 17, drew eight and lost nine, finishing three points above Wycombe.

Rotherham will be desperate for a positive result at Adams Park, as no-one wants to lose on the opening weekend. There is hardly anything to split the two in the betting for this one, although the Millers are the slight favourites to get the win.

Wycombe Wanderers vs Rotherham United Betting Advice

As the season ended prematurely, Rotherham and Wycombe played just once in League One last term. It was a close one at the New York Stadium, with Scott Kashket’s fifth-minute goal giving Wanderers a 1-0 away win.

Key Facts – Wycombe Wanderers vs Rotherham United Betting Tip

  • Wycombe are undefeated in nine against the Millers (five wins, four draws)
  • Rotherham’s last victory over Wanderers was way back in March 2001
  • Only three points separated these two in last season’s League One table

On paper, these two sides seem very evenly matched. The pair are likely to be involved in a relegation scrap this term, so getting off to a winning start could be vital for both

However, we can see the two playing out an entertaining draw at Adams Park on Saturday. Have a punt on the draw and both teams to score at 10/3.

The Chairboys have opened the scoring in four of the previous five meetings. Wycombe are priced at 11/10 to score first in this one.
