The Japanese J-League action continues this weekend, and my first pick features sixth placed Yokohama F Marinos taking on struggling Sanfrecce Hiroshima at their Nissan Stadium in the Bay area of Tokyo.
Yokohama come into this clash in strong form as they’ve put together a seven match unbeaten run which includes having won their last five matches on the trot. Recent wins over Shimizu S-Pulse, Kawasaki Frontale, Tokyo FC, Vissel Kobe and Omiya Ardija have helped lift the bay side into sixth spot in the Japanese top flight.
The hosts are also unbeaten in their last four on home turf included within an overall record of 6-2-1 15/6, with only Sagan Tosu possessing a better defensive record than them in the division so far. Look out for forwards Vieira (6 goals) and Martinus (3 goals).
Visitors Sanfrecce Hiroshima currently occupy one of the relegation spots in the J-League following a poor run of results which has seen the visitors lose four league matches on the trot with defeats to Kashima Antlers, Kawasaki Frontale, Omiya Ardija and Urawa Reds.
They face another tough assignment when they head to Yokohama as they’ve gained just one league win from their last 11 matches overall, while their results away from home have also been very poor indeed.
An away record of 2-0-6 9/15 is not the sort of record you want to take to a club sitting in sixth spot, particularly having lost four of their last five on the road. In addition, they’ve kept just one clean sheet to date on their travels, so the outlook doesn’t look good here.
