Young Boys will be eager to hold onto their top spot in the Swiss Super League on Wednesday night when they take on fourth placed Luzern at their STADE DE SUISSE Wankdorf in Bern, as they look to build upon their home win last time out in the league.
Young Boys registered a much needed 3-0 home win over Lugano a couple of weeks ago which was on the back of two frustrating draws against Zurich and St Gallen respectively. The home side are fighting on two fronts as well at the moment as they are involved in the group stages of the Europa League, drawing 1-1 with Partizan on matchday one.
But back to the Super League, and they’ve lost just once at home so far in this campaign, and they’ve racked up six wins from their last seven on home turf, which includes a heavy 4-1 win over tonight’s opponents, Luzern, back in May.
Visitors Luzern were dumped out of the Europa League during the qualifying rounds to Croatian outfit, Osijek, 3-2 on aggregate, so they’ll have the league as their main concern this season as they look to gain european qualification for next season.
They too, have lost just once so far this season, but too many stalemates have held them back already as they’ve drawn four of their seven matches played to date in the Super League; draws with Grasshopper, Sion, Zurich and Thun may prove they’re a hard team to beat but do they possess the necessary firepower to take all three points?
They’ll be facing perhaps their toughest test yet this season when they travel to Young Boys on Wednesday night, and I believe there still exists a gulf between the top three sides and the rest of the division.
