There’s more action from the Russian Premier League this Sunday afternoon as league leaders, Zenit St Petersburg take on mid-table Akhmat Grozny at the Saint-Petersburg Stadium.
Despite recent back-to-back defeats away at Anzhi and Dinamo Moscow, Zenit still remain top of the Russian top flight with a four point cushion over Lokomotiv Moscow, but they now return to their home ground where they’ve posted a record of 4-1-0 12/5 which includes wins against Arsenal Tula, Ural, Lokomotiv Moscow and Krasnodar.
Overall, Zenit have suffered just one defeat from their last 13 matches on home soil, and with goalscoring midfielder Erokhin (4 goals) and forward Dzyuba (5 goals) in their ranks, Zenit stand a good chance of returning to winning ways here.
Akhmat Grozny have also produced some reasonable results of late as they’ve lost just once in their last seven matches overall which was a 2-0 loss away at Lokomotiv Moscow, but wins over Ufa, Spartak Moscow and Krasnodar have prevented them from slipping down nearer the bottom half of the division.
Grozny have also drawn three of these last seven with stalemates against Orenburg, Anzhi and Dinamo Moscow but all three of these were at their Akhmat Arena. Away from home though, Akhmat Grozny have lost four of their six matches to date.
An away record of 2-0-4 5/9 includes losses at Rostov, Arsenal Tula, Ural and Lokomotiv Moscow and with just 4 wins from their last 17 matches on their travels, the visitors look to have their work cut out to get a result against Zenit in this one.
