MARATHONBET REVIEW 2020 - SPORTS BETTING REVIEW

OUR OPINIONS ABOUT MARATHONBET

  • Excellent market variety in the sportsbook
  • 0% margins on select markets
  • Very strong market odds

Online-Betting Rating:

This is our Marathonbet review in which we will take a look at the many different facets of the betting operator.

Marathonbet UK were formed back in 1997 so they have a good solid history behind them.

Marathonbet were launched online as an independent sportsbook in 2002 and they have a good global presence, not only in the UK but across other regions of Europe and beyond such as Nigeria.

For this Marathaonbet review, we are going to be taking a look at the range of options that they have within their sportsbook along with Marathonbet odds and how they stand up when it comes to value.

Other things that we will look at are Marathonbet offers and other features that can be found across their site, such as their big promotion of 0% margins on certain markets.

There has been a Marathonbet Manchester City link, operating as main betting partners with the Premier League giants and other major sports clubs.

So it is a full-on in-depth review of their services and we will kick off the Marathonbet review with a look at their sportsbook and odds.

Betting markets and odds quality 7/10

Betting markets

Marathonbet boasts a great selection of markets right across the board. The first glimpse of that is taken from their sportsbook menu which pops up on the left hand side of the screen.

There is a handy navigation guide there as well because the menu sorts itself out into two separate sections, Popular and A-Z. The former offer quick links to the major markets that are upcoming.

Clicking on any of the menu links will expand the menu for that given sport.

So if you click on the arrow in the Football link for example, then you will be presented with a long list of competitions listed by country, which you then expand again to pick the tournament that you want.

If you click directly on the Football menu link instead then on the main screen you will be presented with the markets for the bigger upcoming matches.

It is also worth noting that at the top of the menu there is a 0% margin link and as you will probably come to find out in this Marathonbet UK review, that’s very important.

It gives you direct access to the markets that are covered by their unique 0% margin offer.

There will be a lot more about that as we delve deeper into Marathonbet offers later in this review.

But also what we noticed in this Marathonbet betting review, is that just arriving on their homepage, you are hit with a lot of current market action.

There are long listings of markets in the main section of the screen when you arrive at Marathonbet and these are the current Marathonbet live markets.

So for any punter wanting to jump straight in there, it’s superbly quick access.

We will explore the live in-play betting side a bit later in the Marathonbet UK review.

The right-hand column of the Marathonbet website features all the listings of promotions and it is where the bet slip will hang out as well.

So at first glance, there is nothing really stand-out fancy about the Marathonbet sports betting platform, but there is just a tremendous wealth of betting opportunities there in what is, at the end of the day a superbly robust sportsbook.

Marathonbet Football

There is a long list of football competitions and tournaments that are covered by Marathonbet. It’s pretty extensive coverage overall that they offer.

The quickest way is to generally flick through their sportsbook menu because most of what is on offer on the homepage are live games.

So if you are planning ahead a little bit, you’ll likely need the menu.

So for example, if you were looking to jump into UEFA Champions League betting then you grab the relevant menu link and then the listing for that particular event will be listed on the main screen.

From there the match listings are very clear and straightforward.

Presented are the match outright 1X2 odds and some other key elements can also be found there.

Alongside each match, there is a link to open statistics.

Clicking that will bring up some simple oversights such as the head to head record and the recent results of the teams in question in the competition. That can be popped out to a new window if needed.

Also alongside a match listing in Marathonbet sports betting, there is a number indicating how many other betting options are available for that given game.

When we looked around for this Marathonbet sportsbook review we regularly found well over 350 different bet options available on UEFA Champions League games.

Naturally, the number on offer will vary between the different levels of football, for example you are not going to find as many offers for a game from Latvia as you are for the English FA Cup final.

In summary, the football betting variety from matches on offer to bet variety was superb at Marathonbet.

There are great things across the handicap markets, totals markets, interval markets and more that we feel that most punters would find fits their needs.

Marathonbet Horse Racing

There is good domestic horse racing betting available at Marathonbet from the UK and Ireland.

We actually liked how well-presented the horse racing markets were.

Again, starting in the sportsbook menu, you can expand the horse racing link to bring down the list of venues if you wanted to browse racing that way.

But just on the main screen, there is a block that lists the current day’s, the following day and future racing events so it’s fairly easy to navigate around the Marathonbet horse racing page.

For a given race things are presented nicely. There is basic information about the race and the horses running, such as age, weight, form and trainer/jockey info.

The markets for a card are laid out by Early Price and Starting Price and it’s clear to see the e/w terms for any given race as that info sits above the market.

There are three different tabs by which you can define how you look at the card for a horse racing.

You can stick with just the outright Winner market, or look at the To Win/Not To Win listing or Match betting.

The latter is simply backing one horse to beat another in the race, not having anything to do with who wins the race.

So a big plus for us in this Marathonbet review was how easy the horse racing section was to read and get around.

Sometimes, because of so much information being presented in racing, things can be cluttered.

That’s not the case with Marathonbet who have put out a good solid racing platform there.

We didn’t find international racing and race insights were absent. But for straight racing betting without frills, Marathonbet is good.

Marathonbet eSports

It’s hard to look anywhere now and not see some e-Sports betting action happening.

Marathonbet does offer some good markets for this genre of wagering, which really exploded in early 2020.

For the eSports betting on the site, we found the big markets to be action from Counter-Strike, Dota 2 and League of Legends.

We were highly impressed by the number of matches on offer across each of those games.

We are talking about action from the likes of Belgium and Brazil, to the USA. Another strong point of the eSports betting at Marathonbet was the variety of bet types.

We didn’t just find the match outrights there, but there were good options for things like Best Of 3 maps betting on Dota 2 and Counter-Strike events, depending on the level of the tournament that the match was coming from.

To take a closer look at things we went into a Dota 2 fixture and found 18 different bet options, mostly resting in the Map Markets sections and handicaps.

There was also some sports action covered in the e-Sports section of the Marathonbet odds. The big one as FIFA matches from right across the globe. There were massive amounts of bet varieties on those.

We regularly saw over 80 bet options for FIFA Lega Pro fixtures for example, which was highly impressive. Among that were things like the Correct Score, HT/FT, Half with most goals and so on.

Other sports markets

Another strong point, we felt for this Marathonbet UK review that was worth mentioning, was just the overall variety of sports that we found at the operator.

You would, of course, expect to land on a bookie offer UK markets and expect to find things like cricket, rugby, horse racing, greyhounds, golf and so on. All the big staples.

But there was also really excellent coverage of what could be called more niche sports for betting like Netball, MMA, Sumo, Table Tennis, Chess and Pool.

While those are the kind of markets that are not going to get as heavily used as the main ones, it was notable how much variety they offered.

Also on show was the strength of their trading on North American sports like American Football, Ice Hockey, Basketball and Baseball. Even during the off-season for some of those, we found plenty of future options to dig through.

When it came to a baseball match we regularly saw over 30 bet options available on an MLB match and well over 100 on NHL ice hockey fixtures.

So all in all, it was another very strong area of Marathonbet sports betting odds.

Novelty Markets

We will round out the Marathonbet sportsbook review with a look at some of the novelty markets that we found on offer.

Anything that wasn’t to do with sports was together in the Specials section of their sportsbook menu. That includes politics.

We took a look in that section and we found some decent enough options on the political side of things, the big markets like the UK Elections and Next Prime Minister markets were there along with the counterpart US political markets.

There were other markets for things like the Sports Personality of the Year award, but all in all, it was not the most extensive of novelty bet sections that we have come across.

odds comparisons

So we need to next look at the odds comparison for what Marathonbet odds are presented.

There are two ways in which we had to look at this and that is because Marathonbet promotions includes their 0% margin which applied to some sports.

Now, of course, you would expect to have to be dealing with some kind of bookmaker margin whatever you were doing at an online sportsbook.

So in a market which had the regular margins, football matches from Sweden and Switzerland in this particular case, we found around 5.5 to 5.9% on the match outrights, which is good.

But then there are those markets to which the Marathonbet 0% margin offer applies to.

For the markets that it does, they cut the margin down to nothing (well, technically it’s about 0.25% the lowest that they can go) but that saving is huge.

Even when we looked at the odds value for this Marathonbet review we were still initially shocked when we calculated a UEFA Champions League match to see those low margins, as it’s just so unusual.

Later in this Marathonbet bookmaker review will take a closer look at the low margins promotion, but note that it does not apply to all markets.

It’s worth clicking on the link at the top of the sportsbook menu to see which ones it does apply to.

Marathonbet sign up bonus, free bets & current promotions 6/10

bonus offers

There is currently not a Marathonbet sign up offer, and there is no welcome offer until further notice.

However, they are offering 0% margin on certain markets within their sportsbook.

A 0% margin means that the bookmaker will not take any commission on those select markets.

So with no commission taken on winnings from those leagues, that favours the punter as a full odds payout will be collected with nothing taken out.

A Marathonbet new customer, along with existing ones can all get access to the 0% margin offer.

*Margin applies to certain markets only; exact margin subject to fluctuation around 0%. Best Prices based on margin offered on these four leagues prior to May 2020.

Go to their drop down menu and find the Bonuses link. There you can find what they do have on offer.

0% Margins*

A bookmaker margin, is what is known as the bookmaker’s commission.

It is a cut that operators take from a betting market. However, in the case of Marathonbet, on some markets they offer a 0% margin.

That means that they don’t take any cut, which in turn leads to better value in the odds for the punter.

*Margin applies to certain pre-match markets only; exact margin subject to fluctuation around 0%.

You can find the latest matches on which Marathonbet are offering 0% margin in a separate category under the corresponding sport or by clicking the 0% margin banners on the website.

Marathonbet have always been strong with their low margins, but this Marathonbet promotion takes thing a little bit further.

0% Margins* Explained

On their website, Marathonbet have a very good explanation of just what 0% means for a punters betting on the Match Result (1X2) market.

Let us say Man Utd are playing at home to Liverpool.
The prices offered for this match are:
4.20 (16/5) Man Utd
3.80 (14/5) Draw
2.00 (1/1) Liverpool

To calculate the margin, divide 100 (the break level percentage) by the decimal prices, thus…
100/4.20 = 23.809
100/3.80 = 26.316
100/2.00 = 50.000
23.809 + 26.316 + 50.000 = 100.125%

In this example, this is the closest a bookmaker can get to a 0% margin* whilst retaining a percentage of at least 100.

Now that would need to be stacked up against the same market where regular bookmaker margins were still in play. That way it is clear to see the real difference.
4.00 (3/1) Man Utd
3.60 (13/5) Draw
1.90 (9/10) Liverpool

100/4.00 = 25.000
100/3.60 = 27.778
100/1.90 = 52.632
25.000 + 27.778 + 52.631 = 105.409%
All bookmakers create markets at over 100%, thus creating the bookmakers’ margin.

*Margin applies to certain pre-match markets only; exact margin subject to fluctuation around 0%.

Marathonbet Loyalty Program

There is a loyalty program available in the Marathonbet offers section on their website. The full details of the offer reside there so it’s worth checking out.

The basic upshot is that your sports bets will count towards their loyalty program as spoon as you enroll into the Marathonbet club.

Then the loyalty points are awarded for qualifying sports bets when they are settled.

A qualifying bet has to be:
stakes of at least £10 (or currency equivalent)
odds of at least 1.30

The amount of points awarded for every £10 staked on qualifying bets (irrespective of whether such bets win or lose), will be determined based on your participant level in the Marathonbet Club (up to a maximum of 100 points per bet).

For example, if you are on the second level of the loyalty program, you will collect 2.2 points if you bet £20. If your bet is £29 on the second level of the loyalty program, you still collect 2.2 points. The scale of level and points you could find in the table

In-play betting 7/10

live in-play betting

There is plenty of Marathonbet in play betting to get stuck into on the site. As we mentioned in an earlier bookmaker review, a lot of that can be seen right on the homepage when you land on the website.

That section is nicely organised by sports so it is easy to navigate around.

Another big aspect of Marathonbet in play betting that was immediately notable was the amount of bet variety that they got going on.

A football match from Mexico had over 200 different options available while a pre-season NBA match had nearly 50 betting options running in play for that particular fixture. A table tennis fixture had over 30 available.

So across the board, there were plenty of live in play betting opportunities at Marathonbet.

For the next part of this review, we will take a closer look at some of the big in-play markets.

In general there’s a good amount of sporting events covered including e-Sports which we saw when testing the site for this Marathonbet review.

You do have the ability to bookmark your favourite markets in the live betting section so you can keep them on top.

There is also a checkbox which you can select to be able to place a bet in one click, just to speed it up even more which is really nice.

In-play football betting at Marathonbet

So let’s kick things off with in-play football betting because that is the biggest part of the live betting experience on the website.

The sportsbook and live in play betting services at Marathonbet overall are clean and simple to read, as this is not a site where you will find a lot of graphics. But the sportsbook operates quickly.

A quick operation is essential when it comes to live in-play betting.

So what is there to be found for a match in in-play betting at Marathonbet? Well first of all the page is laid out nicely.

At the top of the page, there is a graphic showing the basic flow of the game that is happening.

Alongside that, there are basic statistics from the game, such as the number of corners, cards, shots on target, fouls and dangerous attacks.

It’s just little nuggets of information that can be used to get a picture of what is happening in the game, because unless you are actually watching that very game, then it would be hard to know.

There was a wonderful array of markets that we came across for a single match alongside the obvious match result market.

The list of markets could be filtered into smaller sections of Main Market, Handicap Markets, Total Markets, Goals Markets and Half Markets.

For a bit of customisation, punters can also mark their favourite markets.

The changes in odds are indicated by a green or a red arrow that flashes up, so it’s easy to keep up to date with that.

In-play eSports

Another big section of the Marathonbet live in play betting section was their eSports offering. Plenty was going on there as well.

All of those big markets such as Counter-Strike and League of Legends had markets available for in-play betting on things like map results and handicaps.

The number of matches that are on offer will depend a lot on the time of day and week that you go and look.

Weekends tend to be a bit busier as does early in the evening UK time but still, the markets that come in are from across the globe.

There were a lot of international FIFA games happening when we looked for this Marathonbet review and there were ample markets available to select from including options like correct score and next team to score.

In-play North American sports

As mentioned at the start of the Marthaonbet in play betting section, there are a lot of live markets to be found on the likes of basketball and other major sports from North America.

They were particularly good handicap markets to be found there on an NBA match, along with winning margins. All in all the North American sports as a whole are very well represented and covered.

There were around 30 options for MLB matches in progress that we found, which were broken down across handicap markets, Totals and Innings Markets where options like To Win 7th Inning With Handicap were on offer.

The same was with the Ice Hockey from the NHL which delivered some very good lines for betting live.

All of the sports that we looked at had the basic game information represented in a graphical format, but statistics elsewhere were not always as expensive as those that were found on football.

Extras & features 7/10

Extras & features

Advance Bet

One nice feature at Marathonbet is their Advance Bet product. This is actually a bonus feature on the site which allow you to make use of your unsettled bets on the account.

It simply provides you with the ability to place further bets when you don’t have enough funds in your account balance, based on the potential outcome of your unsettled bets.

If you were to use Advance Bet at the amount you used to place a bet was more than what you got back from a subsequent bet settlement, then you won’t have to pay back the remainder.

You can place Advance Bets on Live Events and any Events that are starring in the following 48 hours.

Sports Pools

Also on the Marathonbet site is Sports Pools. To be found in there are things like Pick 3 from Serie A fixtures.

Indicated alongside each of the markets, and the markets vary from things like 1X2 and Correct Score, are how many active syndicates there are.

To get in on the action, you can go solo or join a syndicate. A syndicate is where you join up with other players and the team Captain makes all the calls about what picks are made and any Cash Out decisions.

Winnings get paid out to members of the syndicate in proportion to their contributions.

Bet Constructor

In the Marathonbet Bet Constructor, you pick 2 virtual teams made up from players (or teams) taking part in real matches and then you place wagers on the outcome of those virtual teams.

This is a points-based game based on what the real players that you select for your team, produces in the real game.

There is both a tennis and a football bet constructor option for you. These are a couple of extra features that may make your stay at Marathonbet a bit more extensive if you like those kinds of things.

They also run a ‘lose to win’ accumulator and they have good browser extensions available as well.

Marathonbet payment options - deposit and withdrawal methods 7/10

Marathonbet payment options

All of the funding options for a Marathonbet deposit are commission free with and all deposit methods that are available as well are instant as well.

The Marathonbet minimum deposit is £5 expect for any instant bank transfer done through Trustly which is a £10 minimum.

The exact same thing is on the other side of things as well when it comes to making a Marathonbet withdrawal.

Most withdrawals take several minutes – 24 hours to fully process. When it comes to Trustly, things take a little longer up to 48 hours.

The only exception to all of that is ApplePay. Withdrawals cannot be made to them, so if you have deposited through that platform, you will have to get the funds out to another source.

User-friendliness of website 7/10

User-friendliness of website

The Marathonbet website is very user friendly.

As we have already hinted at throughout this Martahonbet bookmaker review, there is nothing particularly flashy about the website.

It’s a simple white and blue colour scheme.

You are thrown straight into the sportsbook when you land there.

Aside from the right-hand column where the promotions are listed, there is nothing to distract you away from the betting.

There is a mobile version of the site as well and you get the same basic layout and services on there.

We will look at the Marathonbet app review later in this review.

We did find through this Marathonbet review that there was a lot more use of the main sportsbook menu than perhaps we were used to at other online bookmakers.

Under the settings link found across the main horizontal menu on the site, we liked the options there because it was possible to choose between six different odds type layouts.

It was also possible to customer the type of site that was seen, such as viewing Multimakets or just a classic view.

Other features there were the ability to change odds notifications off and where events popped up in a new page or the current page.

So there were good touches there.

Marathonbet promotions were nice and accessible and even though there isn’t that many around on the site, having them immediately available on the right-hand column allows you to see what may pull in appeal.

All in all, there is a very good platform there. e-Sports has it’s own decided section, and the other features like Sports Pools and the Bet Constructor pull everything together.

Marathonbet app review 8/10

There is a link to the Marathonbet app directly from the main horizontal menu. A click on that will take you straight to a page where there are links to both the Android version and the iOS version.

It’s worth mentioning here that if you do not wish to use the Marathonbet mobile app then their website is compatible with the Chrome, Safari, Opera and Yandex mobile browsers. So there are plenty of options to get access to the full services.

So let’s push on with the Marathonbet app review. The full extent and power of their sportsbook can be found through the mobile app, so you can have access to the likes of football, horse racing, basketball, snooker, tennis and more.

The Marathonbet app is actually easy to navigate, it’s very clear to slide through the markets and the sportsbook menu.

Because of all the live in play betting options that are available through the Marathonbet platform, it comes over very well to the mobile services. It allows for quick, easy betting right at your fingertips.

Players can also add a whole category to your Favourites to allow for quick access to your preferred markets.

Included the mobile app for live betting at Marathonbet is statistics and animations that help you follow along with the action that is happening in the match that you are following.

There is the full account management that can be done through the Marathonbet mobile app, which means that you can make deposits through their various methods as well as pull out any funds right via the map.

There is also live streaming available through the mobile app. So through the app, you can watch a stream in full-screen mode. So you can stay tuned while having access to all of the relevant live betting markets that are there for that game.

All in all, for this Marathonbet app review, found some really big positives about it. It really allowed for easy betting in just a few steps because it is so well designed and the sportsbook is laid out well.

Features like the loyalty club can be accessed through bets placed via the app and with fast deposit and payouts, it’s a very well-rounded betting app.

Marathonbet Customer Service & Support, Security & Reliability 7/10

Marathonbet Customer Service

We actually found their help section pretty good, there is some very clear information there and you will probably find the help you need if you have the time to go through that round.

It’s very organised and explains a lot.

There is a Marathonbet live chat too available, so you can get direct access to a representative through there. That’s available between 07:00 and 22:00 GMT.

But maybe there is a time where you want to pick up a phone and call them and you can do that at 0800 9757882

Their email address is care@marathonbet.com if you want to contact them that way.

Our Marathonbet review rating: 7 / 10

Marathonbet review

There is a very good experience to be found at Marathonbet. The platform and layout is simple and straight forward.

It’s good no-nonsense betting that is to be found there because it’s just listing after listing of markets without any big flashy distractions happening.

The site does load quickly and everything that we found on there in the sportsbook was clear and easy to read.

The bet variety was excellent, Marathonbet stood up really well in that department and that was across a lot of the sports that they had on offer.

There is a strong Marathonbet app that is available, which provides a quick and easy betting platform to use while on the go.

All in all, there is a very good sportsbook to be found there and they have always boasted about their low margins and being able to visit the site and find 0% margins on some popular markets, that is something that made Marathonbet stand out.
