Ouzo heads the Silver Royal Hunt Cup market
The current 4/1 favourite for Wednesday’s Silver Royal Hunt Cup Handicap is OUZO*(betting odds taken from Coral at 22:08 GMT on Tuesday, 16th June 2020).
He made his return just 10 days ago and looked to have scored a win, but was beaten right at the line at Newmarket.
Still, it was a great showing from him from fresh and he most certainly wouldn’t be winning out of turn in this one. He secured a hat-trick last summer at various courses.
He has very solid form and it just not likely to be far from being in the frame at all. This will be his Ascot bow.
MAYDANNY
As unexpected as he is, MAYDANNY could be a threat in this one. He is an exciting if lightly raced youngster. He secured a great win by almost four lengths at Yarmouth in early June having been the 4/1F.
Without question, this is a massive step up in quality that he is facing here, that Yarmouth success has broken his maiden. Maydanny is being well respected from 6/1*(betting odds taken from Coral at 22:08 GMT on Tuesday, 16th June 2020).
SALAYEL
4-year-old filly SALAYEL could be one to keep on side. She was in some good form at the end of last season, never far from being in the frame.
She hasn’t scored since breaking her maiden in February last year but has placed in four of her five runs since them. So there is a decent chance that she is going to show in this on.
Salayel took on 8F at Ascot in September and was third place in a Class 2 handicap and she is not without appeal in this market from 12/1*(betting odds taken from Coral at 22:08 GMT on Tuesday, 16th June 2020).
ZHUI FENG
ZHUI FENG is another interesting one. He likes to take things on from the front. That could actually spell trouble for him as he’s only two stalls away from Ouzo and could lead the favourite on.
Anyway, he is a threat in this field is Zhui Feng in his own right. He showed some solid form in his last couple of races and returned to action with a 4th of 10 at Newmarket on June 7th. Zhui Feng took second in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Mile at Ascot last August.
HOME BEFORE DUSK
Despite being at the top end of the weights in this handicap effort, HOME BEFORE DUSK could have some claims. He has had a busy year with four 2020 races under his belt, winning one of those at Kempton on an 8F trip in February.
It has been four wins in his last eight appearances and he can’t be knocked and the handicap seems about right. The consistent form is there and has an e/w appeal from a current 33/1*(betting odds taken from Coral at 22:08 GMT on Tuesday, 16th June 2020)
Other Contenders
SIR BUSKER scored a win on his last run, landing a success at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago. He won a couple of times last year as well and brings some decent place claims to the table.
Another who won on their last run is UNIVERSAL GLEAM, who is a pretty reliable runner. His recent win happened at Wolverhampton in March, but he takes on an extra 3lb for this.
PLANTADREAM is going to have to beat a bit of a tough hand dealt by the handicapper. He has won two of his four starts however and on his handicap debut crushed the field at Lingfield just under two weeks ago. The question mark will be about the extra weight (14lb) holding back potential progress.
Predictions & Tips
There is such a good field out for this one and there are a lot of claims. We’ll start with OUZO who does look a good fit for success in this one.
Very favourable weight is on his side and he looked super sharp on his return to action at Newmarket. We can’t dismiss his chances in this big field.
Others that appeal is SALAYEL who looks as if she can launch a serious claim for at least a place finish in this contest. Her form is heading in the right direction and not one to dismiss lightly.
As our big each selection we will lean towards UNIVERSAL GLEAM who comes back from some a/w action to the turf. He takes on a 3lb rise, and if he can get into position he may be able to outrun his odds.
