Killer Clown the 5/1 FAV for Greatwood Gold Cup

Shaping up as the favourite for this big race at Newbury on Saturday is KILLER CLOWN at 5/1* (betting odds recorded at 21:50 GMT on March 5th, 2021 at Betvictor).

He picked up a win on his latest effort, landing a novice handicap on Boxing Day at Kempton. That was a strong race.

There has been a rise of 15lb for him in the ratings since then, so how much is that going to hamper him?

That does look to be a little bit harsh on him, but at the very least Killer Clown will be expected to be in the frame.

UMBRIGADO
11/2

Betvictor

Obrigado the one to watch?

The 11/2 option UMBRIGADO really comes into the picture in this one since the assessor has been after Killer Clown* (betting odds recorded at 21:50 GMT on March 5th, 2021 at Betvictor).

Umbrigado has looked really strong since moving to the fences and will likely have a big say in this one.

There was plenty in the tank in claiming a win at Wetherby last time out.

That victory was just over two weeks ago and it followed a Fontwell novices success.

He comes up 5lb in the ratings and that looks fair and not enough to slow rein in his chances in this one.

Umbrigado is going up on a steep curve in this sphere at the moment and the return to a longer trip is also a huge boon for him.

Grand Sancy to ask question at Newbury

A smart hurdler, GRAND SANCY turns further attention to chasing action here as he looks to get back on track.

He opened the season well landing a score at Chepstow. It’s worth revisiting that form as well because it should give him a chance in this one.

Grand Sancy did follow up that Chepstow effort with a disappointing run at Wincanton a month afterwards.

But he’s now been away from the action for the last four months so is nice nd fresh for another crack in this sphere.

Trained by Pail Nicholls, Grand Sancy comes from a yard who has shown a fair hand in this fixture before.

He can’t be discounted here from a quote of 7/2* (betting odds recorded at 21:50 GMT on March 5th, 2021 at Betvictor).

Senior Citizen to make his presence felt?

The last time that we had a look at SENIOR CITIZEN was in the Grand Sefton.

That was on some really difficult ground at Aintree when he couldn’t get himself into the frame at all.

But looking back further a little bit, Senior Citizen did win two of his first four starts over the fences and one of his best was a second-place at Huntingdon in November.

That was an eye-catching run. We think that him not being able to see out the 21f on the heavy ground at Aintree on his latest run is nothing to be too concerned about.

Now coming back on a trip as well from this mark, he can get there.

Senior Citizen has plenty of appeal at 7/1* (betting odds recorded at 21:50 GMT on March 5th, 2021 at Betvictor).

The Big Bite one to consider?

Another of the key contenders for the Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase is THE BIG BITE who is rolling in at 8/1* (betting odds recorded at 21:50 GMT on March 5th, 2021 at Betvictor).

He secured a win to open the new season with, collecting the victory over the fences on a 2m trip at Aintree.

There was further improvement from The Big Bite on his follow up as well.

He chased home IBLEO at Doncaster on his latest run, which was about a month ago at the 2m distance.

So that has been two very good efforts from him this season.

That is enough to put The Big Bite on the radar, especially as he has won at two and a half miles before as well.

Others to note

GALA B is up only 3lb from when he claimed second in this very fixture a couple of years ago.

He was very good in taking a second-place finish at course and distance in November on his reappearance. He hasn’t been anywhere near that level since.

CAPELAND collected a win on his penultimate trip which was at Wincanton.

He goes at a top weight which is probably asking just a little too much of him in this one.

Following that Wincanton win, he pulled up at Ascot having been hampered, so that can be excused.

Will BARTON KNOLL be found out in this deeper race? This is his first run since claiming victory at Doncaster in November.

He takes on a 7lb bump in the ratings which is going to put him under severe pressure in this fixture.

Predictions & Tips for Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase Racing Odds

This is a very good, deep field and it should be a fantastic special. Who gets the Grade 3 win?

Straight off the top UMBRIGADO looks to have a fantastic chance as he is shaping up to be a very good chaser.

It would not be a surprise to see him get in the frame at 11/2 and he really piques a lot of interest* (betting odds recorded at 21:50 GMT on March 5th, 2021 at Betvictor).

We like the chance for SENIOR CITIZEN as well, who can be excused for a poor run in very testing conditions at Aintree last time out.

This shorter trip and fairer ground could easily play to his strengths and is a good 7/1 selection* (betting odds recorded at 21:50 GMT on March 5th, 2021 at Betvictor).

GRAND SANCY would have to be the other selection for us at 7/2 to consider* (betting odds recorded at 21:50 GMT on March 5th, 2021 at Betvictor).

Given that Paul Nicholls has a great record in this fixture then coming in fresh, Grand Sancy could have a say.
