Monkfish the red hot favourite to land the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham 2021

Horse Racing Betting

The second race of Wednesday’s Cheltenham action is the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase betting.

This is a Grade 1 Chase which is open to five-year-olds and above and it is contested over a 3m trip.

There are just the six runners declared for the 2021 Brown Advisory.

Heading up the market as the favourite for this small field is MONKFISH who is trading strongly at odds-on.

Last year’s winner of this race was eight-year-old CHAMP who got the score from a 4/1 SP (B J Geraghty / N J Henderson).

Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase Betting Odds

Monkfish 4/11
The Big Breakaway 15/2
Eklat De Rire 9/1
Sporting John 12/1
Dickie Diver 20/1
Fiddlerontheroof 28/1

Monkfish the strong 4/11 odds-on FAV in Brown Advisory Novices Chase

The bookmakers are expecting the Brown Advisory to go one way at the Cheltenham Festival 2021.

That is a comfortable win over the 3m trip for MONKFISH who is 4/11 odds-on* (betting odds recorded at 19:17 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Coral).

The Willie Mullins charge is stepping up to the three-mile trip here for the first time. It’s probably going to be his scope.

There’s a fair chance that if Monkfish stays on this current trajectory then he will be back at next year’s Cheltenham Festival in the Gold Cup.

Last year he collected the Albert Bartlett and therefore has course form.

Monkfish is going from strength to strength and his most recent win was a month ago at Leopardstown, making it back to back Grade 1 wins there.

Eklat De Rire w/o Monkfish
5/2

Coral

Eklat De Rire the best of the rest?

It is probably going to take something special from someone to topple Monkish in this race (the former RSA Chase).

ELAT DE RIRE is a good jumper for Henry de Bromhead and looks to have a good chance of taking that runner up spot.

In the outright market for the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase betting odds Eklat De Rire is a 9/1 quote* (betting odds recorded at 19:17 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Coral).

It has been back to back wins over the fences for him this season. He’s lightly raced and an exciting prospect in this sphere and has been proven at the trip.

The latest win that Eklat De Rire took was 45 days ago as he made all in a Grade 3 novice chase at this distance at Naas. It was a comfortable win by almost two lengths.

The Big Breakaway could challenge for second

THE BIG BREAKAWAY is the other that we see this field along with Eklat De Rire as being the most likely to battle for second place.

He opened the season with a good course and distance success on what was his chasing debut as well.

So that was an encouraging start for the Colin Tizzard-trained six-year-old.

But he has not quite been seen to the best effect in his two follow up races, in which he has taken back to back second-place finishes.

The most recent of those was at Kempton 81 days ago.

That’s when The Big Breakaway found Shan Blue too good for him on the day in the Grade 1 Chase in December.

The Big Breakway enters as the 15/2 second favourite* (betting odds recorded at 19:17 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Coral).

Will lack of jumping experience hinder Sporting John?

SPORTING JOHN looked to be heading in a good direction last season. He opened with three straight wins over the hurdles.

But then he couldn’t follow that up at all on his final run of the campaign when he was well down the field in Ballymore.

Sporting John made his chasing debut on his reappearance run this season and never really made an impact with a third place finish.

He did leave that form behind to score at Sandown in the Scilly Isles afterwards.

Sporting John looks a big green but the potential is there if he can push on over the bigger stuff.

He enters the action on Tuesday from a current 12/1 mark* (betting odds recorded at 19:17 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Coral).

Dickie Diver

The inexperienced DICKIE DIVER would need something special for trainer Nicky Henderson to pull this off.

He did shrug off a long absence to take second in a Newbury novice handicap on his chasing debut last time out. That was at 2m 6f.

But whichever way you cut it, this is a pretty big ask for the eight-year-old in a much stronger contest.

Fiddlerontheroof

Things never happened for FIDDLERONTHEROOF at least year’s Supreme Novices’. He was expected to put down a big challenge in that one.

But it turned out to be a really poor effort from him in a race that was dominated by Shishkin and Abacadabras.

He needs a bit of a step forward now and he gets the tongue tied for the first time.

Fiddlerontheroof got off the mark over the fences at Exeter in November and has taken three second-place finishes since then.

Predictions & Tips for Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase Betting Odds

We can’t find any reason whatsoever to oppose the favourite MONKFISH in Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase betting.

But there’s no value there at 4/11* (betting odds recorded at 19:17 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Coral).

A lot of punters will probably have him pegged as a banker for the Cheltenham Festival 2021 and understandably so.

So we are going to EKLAT DE RIRE at 5/2 in the W/O Monkish market instead* (betting odds recorded at 19:17 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Coral).

We think he can bring enough improvement to the table in this one after making it all at Grade 3 last time out.

He may just have the beating of THE BIG BREAKAWAY at 2/1 for that second-place finish in the contest* (betting odds recorded at 19:17 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Coral)..
