Arthurian Fable can write a fine ending to King George V Stakes quest

Horse Racing Betting

The King George V Stakes is a Class 2 Handicap and a big feature of Royal Ascot 2020. This one is for 3-year-olds only and the contest was won last year by South Pacific, a big 22/1 shot, the first winner in double figures since Elidor back in 2013.

This is a 1m 3f 211y trip that the runners are taking on. There are 18 declared for the contest and it is Kipps who is heading up the market.

Kipps brings strong claims to King George V Stakes

The current 4/1 market leader for the King George V Stakes is KIPPS* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 23:48 GMT on Tuesday, June 16th 2020). He came back into action 10 days ago and put in a very good run at Haydock.

He claimed second place in that one after landing a novice effort at Linfield in December. This will be his fourth racetrack appearance only. Like most in this field will be having a crack up at the one and a half mile trip for the first time.

His official rating is set to jump up after this and despite being a beaten favourite last time out, brings serious claims.

ARTHURIAN FABLE
12/1

BRIGHT MELODY

Earlier this month BRIGHT MELODY was in action at the Group 3 Classic Trial at Kempton and produced a good third-place finish. That was just his second race track experience. So he is unexposed but looks a really exciting prospect here to back to take on the favourite with.

The handicapper recognises the threat and there could be more to offer. Bright Melody will have cheek pieces for the first time and is the current 11/2 second favourite* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 23:48 GMT on Tuesday, June 16th 2020).

BODYLINE

Being fairly well treated in this contest is BODYLINE who was coming along nicely with progressive form last season. He was last seen a couple of weeks ago, securing a second-place at Yarmouth at one and a quarter miles.

Bodyline hasn’t received the greatest of draws, going outside from 17, but he showed some good strong finishing power in his last race and easily has placed claims. He is trading at a current 9/1 price* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 23:48 GMT on Tuesday, June 16th 2020).

ARTHURIAN FABLE

Another that appears to be well treated by the handicapper for the King George V Stakes betting is ARTHURIAN FABLE. With some solid juvenile performances behind him, he took on a mile and a quarter trip at Newmarket 10 days ago. That was the handicap debut for Arthurian Fable and he went close too.

He stays at the same mark and has to be kept on side as he looks as if he’ll have the distance in him. Arthurian Fable is a 12/1 poke* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 23:48 GMT on Tuesday, June 16th 2020).

WIN O’CLOCK

Down near the bottom of the weights is WIN O’CLOCK who is carrying an extra 4lb for a recent win. That was a success in a Haydock handicap 9 days ago over a smile and a quarter. It was the finish that he produced which raises an eyebrow.

He charged to the finish with plenty to spare as well and this step up in trip could be right in his wheelhouse from 11/2* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 23:48 GMT on Tuesday, June 16th 2020).

Other Contenders

CONVICT has scored twice in his last three runs. The most recent of those was in a Newmarket Nursery back in October. It’s reasonable enough to assume that he is going to come back stronger and fitter.

TRUMPET MAN looks as if he is going to find his footing in the middle distances this season. He didn’t get a win on the board in his three juvenile efforts, but it was steady progress nonetheless.

KING’S CAPER returned to action recently with a fifth-place finish at the Lingfield Derby Trial. He is from a yard with a good record in the race and secured three wins at around the 1mile distance as a juvenile.

SUBJECTIVIST is another that looks as if he could benefit from a longer trip. A useful juvenile lacking a little bit of a spark on the shooter’s distance, but the extra trip could see him come into his own.

The unexposed HUKUM impressively won a Kempton novice last November. He has been away from the racetrack since then, but the manner of that win showed some fantastic potential here. He could have the extra trip in him as well.

Predictions & Tips

So many of these runners just haven’t been tested at the mile and a half trip. That throws some big variables into the picture and it’s enough to see us take a pass on the favourite, the unexposed KIPPS.

The first of picks is BODYLINE who seems to be coming on leaps and bounds. Does get a poor draw, but he looks perfectly suited to going the extra quarter of a mile in this one and is well treated by the handicapper.

ARTHURIAN FABLE is going to be our big shout for this one down at the low-end of the weights. With a solid juvenile background behind him and staying at the same mark as he was for handicap debut 10 days when he impressed, speaks volumes for us.

Our final one to consider is WIN O’CLOCK who is easily on the right side of the handicapper here. He produced such a good finish in his last run, looking really strong that he could find his groove up at the extra quarter mile.
