A look at the Aston Park Stakes from Newbury

Horse Racing Betting

One of the big feature races of Saturday, on a brilliant day of racing, we look at The Aston Park Stakes from Newbury.

This is a Group 3 contest over a 1m 4f trip around the venue.

It is only a small field out for the renewal, with six declared runners. But there is some great quality in the field.

Al AASY heads up the market currently in racing odds, but there are sure to be some stiff challenges behind him.

Al Aasy even money FAV in Aston Park odds

The race favourite for the Aston Stakes on the weekend is AL AASY. The impressive youngster is currently at even money for the score* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2021 at Betfair).

After a good previous campaign, picking up a couple of wins, he took another giant leap forward on his reappearance.

Al Aasy delivered a win in the John Porter Stakes a month ago as he came back into action. That was over course and distance.

So naturally, there are big claims for him ahead of Saturday and that C&D was earned by more than four lengths.

Al Aasy is still nice and low mileage for Willie Haggas and looks to be handled very well.

He can’t be underestimated in this one, although the form from that John Porter Stakes wasn’t that strong.

Can Logician return to winning ways?

There is a big look at LOGICIAN here in Aston Park Stakes odds at 7/4* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2021 at Betfair).

He has been away from the action for 218 days, having suffered a defeat in October at the Cumberland Lodge Stakes.

That York misfire was at the end of a season where illness started to take a toll on him. Logician had been thriving before that, winning all five previous racetrack appearances.

The highlight of those victories was his supremely impressive 2019 St Leger victory. If he is anywhere near that kind of form then he will have a massive chance.

Naturally, the slight question will be over the absence. Will he have needed a reappearance run before this bigger effort?

Logician is high quality and may just have enough about him to defy the absence and bounce back positively.

Can Thunderous make further progress?

THUNDEROUS hit the headlines last Spring with a victory in the Dante Stakes at York. That really put him on the map.

He looked as if he had needed a reappearance run, as he stepped forward following that. On his latest run, Thunderous was third in a Group 2 at Newmarket.

That race was won by the highly impressive Sir Ron Priestley, so Thunderous was by no means disgraced in that contest over 12f.

That hinted that he is running himself into form and he is a 13/2 option in Aston Park Stakes odds* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2021 at Betfair).

Ranch Hand to challenge for the places?

12/1 shot RANCH HAND has produced good form this season. Andrew Balding’s gelding completed a hattrick with a victory at Lingfield 43 days ago.

That was a 2m conditions event. Both of his wins for the campaign have been delivered on the all-weather.

This is a much tougher assignment for Ranch Hand as he comes down in a trip.

But he looks a positive, smart gelding nonetheless. We don’t see him playing for anything more than a place on a good run.

Saif with a lot to find

The lowest rated runner in the field for the Aston Park is ASIAAF who is the 66/1 outsider* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2021 at Betfair).

She did produce a fine run to earn a third of six in a Yarmouth Handicap on her latest run. That was 25 days ago.

Asaaif was actually an expensive purchase, but we can’t see enough in her form that suggests she is going to hold ground with this strong company.

Rainbow Dreamer has a lot to handle

Another who looks out of his depth is Alan King’s RAINBOW DREAMER at 25/1* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2021 at Betfair).

On his penultimate run, Rainbow Dreamer scored in a conditions event at Kempton on a 2m trip. He followed that up with another 2m run, taking a solid enough 4th place in a field of 7 at Lingfield.

How any of that form translates to him having a chance in Aston Park on Saturday on a much shorter trip, we are struggling to see.

Predictions & Tips for Aston Park Stakes Odds

We are rolling with LOGICIAN at 7/4 in Aston Park Stakes odds* (odds recorded at 21:09 GMT on April 27th, 2021 at Betfair).

He is coming back after having had that blip in October, but that can easily be excused because of health issues.

Logician is a high-class performer and the son of Frankel looks to have the right attitude about him to be able to bounce back.

We expect AL AASY to put in a strong challenge as well after his course and distance win. That wasn’t the strongest of fields, but he is smart and a definite contender.

Having a run at the places should be THUNDEROUS who took a nice step forward on his latest run in a Group 2 effort.
