Shelir 3/1 FAV for Shergar Cup Celebration Handicap

Things are tight at the head of the market for this race, but late on Friday it was Shelir running as the current 3/1 FAV* (betting odds taken from betway at 21:33 GMT on Friday, August 7th 2020).

He brings some solid claims to the table after showing up well at Royal Ascot in June. In that run he was fifth in the Buckingham Palace Stakes, not really getting the cleanest of runs because of traffic.

The last effort that Shelir had was back at Ascot in late July when he finished in the middle of the pack behind winner Blue Mist back at Ascot in what was a solid effort.

So Shelir has had the experience in some big handicap efforts and compared to where he started this campaign, he is 5lb down in the ratings. That could be a big factor.

Can Jalaad score the double?

JALAAD is the current second favourite in the market at 7/2* (betting odds taken from betway at 21:33 GMT on Friday, August 7th 2020). He is bringing form to the table having scored a win on his last outing.

With the cheek pieces on for the first time, Jalaad nailed a mile success last month at York in a Class 3 handicap.

He has shown steady form this season and he was trending towards that success. This is though, going to be a tester on a step up in class.

Game Player ready to score on return?

Perhaps the most interesting player in this field is GAME PLAYER who is a current 5/1 option* (betting odds taken from betway at 21:33 GMT on Friday, August 7th 2020). He is coming back into action after a year away.

But on his day and in top form, he is good enough to score in this kind of field.

That last start was in the Goodwood Mile when he was denied a clear run and had to settle for a finish in the middle of the pack. But he had been shaping very well for the majority of the last campaign.

He could potentially be the big Game Player if he can defy that 732 day absence since his last run. Very interesting and he is one to keep on side.

Kasbaan to be respected in the field

KASBAAN looks to have enough about him to be respected in this fixture. He stepped forward well a couple of weeks ago for a 7f handicap effort here at Ascot.

That was in a Heritage Handicap fixture which was on by Blue Mist.

Kasbaan took that 6th place finish from an 80/1SP so he easily outran expectations and odds there. That makes him a very interesting contender for place claims..

Wild Hope to defy the step up in class?

There are some interesting claims from 9/1 on WILD HOPE* (betting odds taken from betway at 21:33 GMT on Friday, August 7th 2020). He is on a 4lb rise and coming up in a much stiffer contest than what he is used to.

He did win his last outing however, getting a score at Doncaster when wearing the cheek pieces for the first time and being held back a little bit.

Wild Hope is at the bottom of the weights as he comes up from Class 4 to try and compete.

The rest of the runners

CAP FANCAIS scored on his return to action this season at Haydock. But going back out at the same track, he was hugely out of sorts and as he’s top of the weights for this, others appeal more.

SILENT ATTACK was another who scored on his first outing this season. There has been solid work done by him since racing started again, but nothing in there that suggests he can get to the front.

HATEYA hasn’t scored for a couple of years. There were decent performances from her last season, and on her last run she took a fourth place finish at Glorious Goodwood. But she looks to be up against it here.

EJTILAAB is unexposed certainly at this kind of level. This will be just the fourth racetrack appearance for him. He scored on his debut last June. But was third on his last effort, which was over course and distance in a lower-grade fixture.

VIA SERENDIPITY has barely made a mark on anything across his last four races. He has tumbled down the ratings to a fair mark, but doesn’t look to be a realistic threat.

Predictions & Tips for Shergar Cup Celebration Handicap Racing Odds

So it is to the head of the market and SHELIR that we have to start for our racing picks. Because of what he has shown in competitive handicaps, and coming in at a lower weight than the start of the season, he fits the bill nicely.

GAME PLAYER is a fascinating entry and if he was here after a couple of runs, would probably be closer to the favourite in the market. Despite his huge absence from competitive action, he’s good enough to threaten.

The final pick of the action for us is going to be a shot at some value in KASBAAN to make a run at the places. That will be based on his huge effort in a strong handicap at Ascot two weeks ago.
