Plenty of claims in a wide-open Coral Cup action at Cheltenham 2021

Horse Racing Betting

This is a Grade 3 fixture at the Cheltenham Festival for Wednesday and it is an extended two and a half mile trip.

This is one of the bigger fields to be found at the Cheltenham Festival, with 26 declared runners on board for this year’s renewal.

It’s a thrilling spectacle and heading up the market as the favourite is GRAND ROI.

Last year’s winner of this fixture was seven-year-old DAME DE COMPAGNIE who scored from a 5/1 SP (B J Geraghty / N J Henderson).

Grand Roi the 6/1 FAV for Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle Betting Odds

There’s a big field to dig through here. But trading as the outright favourite in the Coral Cup betting is GRAND ROI at 6/1* (betting odds recorded at 21:46 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Boylesports).

At the back end of the previous campaign GRAND ROI really put things together winning back to back races.

Grand Roi picked up a good win at Limerick in December in a Grade 2 contest which further staked his claim for this one.

He will be looking for a bounce back after having been blown away at Naas in a Grade 3 hurdle last time out in January.

Grand Roi takes his first run for a new yard and is expected to be well in the frame for a victory.

He continues to move in the right direction.

GUARD YOUR DREAMS
10/1

Boylesports

Monte Cristo with plenty of appeal

Five-year-old MONTE CRISTO was a very impressive winner on Boxing Day at Kempton. That has seen him jump up 12lb in the ratings.

But that Kempton win was such a stroll that he could well still be a little bit ahead of the handicapper. So he is an interesting player.

There is a quote of 10/1 on the win for MONTE CRISTO who had opened the season with a poor effort at Aintree* (betting odds recorded at 21:46 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Boylesports).

Turns out he just needed to get some air into his lungs given that excellent follow up. So Nicky Henderson’s seven year old has a big chance.

Guard Your Dreams could step forward

There are a lot of reasonable claims on the table in this Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle betting market. GUARD YOUR DREAMS is one of them.

He looks to be a good progressive type and put in a very good effort at the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury last time out. That was a sixth-place finish there.

But Guard Your Dreams shaped like he needed a longer trip and therefore this could be right in his wheelhouse.

Guard Your Dreams is a 10/1 contender* (betting odds recorded at 21:46 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Boylesports).

Can Ascot winner Craigneiche shine at Cheltenham?

There Was a very good win for CRAIGNEICHE on his reappearance run for Nicky Henderson 53 days ago.

That was a success at Ascot in a very competitive handicap. Craigneiche got the victory in that one in very good style as well.

There has been a price to pay of a 12lb rating rise for him. But at the same time, there is plenty of potential still on side for him.

Craigneiche was a maiden hurdle winner last term.

He looks very progressive and is heading on to potentially big things and heads into Coral Cup betting at 8/1* (betting odds recorded at 21:46 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Boylesports).

Janika good enough to bounce back

There was some disappointment for JANIKA on his reappearance run. He was up against his stablemate Craigneiche at Ascot on a belated return.

That was also his first run for wind surgery and he looked as if he well needed the experience out on the track.

So there should be more to come from him.

Janika won over the fences at Grade 2 last season and had a very good British hurdles debut in January last year.

Janika comes in as a reasonable enough 28/1 each-way contender* (betting odds recorded at 21:46 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Boylesports).

Others To Note

WITNESS PROTECTION likely has more to come in handicaps and this middle distance looks about right for him.

He got a nice novice score at Chepstow on his latest run, his second win in three runs this season.

THOMAS DARBY is top weight in this one and gets the cheekpieces on for the first time.

There is a lot on his plate from this mark. He did score a very good strong Ascot handicap last term, but it’s likely place claims at best.

TEA CLIPPER does pique a little interest. He improved to score a Grade 3 Chepstow handicap in October.

He hasn’t been able to follow that up in two following runs, but returns after a jumpers bumper last time out. There’s more in him.

Predictions & Tips for Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle Racing Odds

There are so many claims in this field that it is a little tricky to nail things down. But we are going to make three selections for the shortlist.

CRAIGNEICHE is the first one on the list as he just hit top form on his return from a long lay off.

His win in January and coming in on a revised mark still puts him ahead of the handicapper in our eyes.

He’s worth a look at the 8/1 mark* (betting odds recorded at 21:46 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Boylesports).

A little longer at the 10/1 quote is MONTE CRISTO who we also think that the assessor has yet to fully catch up with* (betting odds recorded at 21:46 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Boylesports).

We also like GUARD YOUR DREAMS at that 10/1 mark as well because he just looks as if he needs this kind of trip* (betting odds recorded at 21:46 GMT on March 16th, 2021 at Boylesports).
