14:50 Aintree Betway Bowl Chase Odds & Tips: Grand National Festival 2021 – 8th April

A preview of Thursday's Betway Bowl Chase from the Grand National Festival as Tiger Roll puts in an appearance

Horse Racing Betting

The opening day of the Grand National Festival on Thursday features the Betway Bowl Chase.

Even though there is no Grand National entry for him this year, Tiger Roll will at least be at the festival as he lines up in this one.

This is a classy field for the big Grade 1 feature race on Thursday.

There are 9 declared runners for Betway Bowl Chase betting to look over, the market currently headed by CLAN DES OBEAUX.

But will Tiger Roll be able to make the splash and make up somewhat for missing out on a third straight National win?

Tiger Roll 6/1

Clan Des Obeaux the Betway Bowl Chase favourite

Heading up the market for the Betway Bowl Chase is CLAN DES OBEAUX at 3/1* (odds recorded on April 7th, 2021 at 20:15 GMT at Betway).

He has been knocking on the door this season, placing in all three of his runs.

Those were hot contests as well, being the Betfair Chase, King George and Denman Chase.

The cheekpieces are on for the first time now and Paul Nicholls’ charge is likely going to be well in the mix.

Clan Des Obeaux had those impressive wins at the King George in 2018 and 2019.

He was in the 2019 edition of this race and found only Kemboy too good for him on the day.

Waiting Patiently
7/2

Waiting Patiently primed to strike

After an encouraging third place in the Clarence House, WAITING PATIENTLY warrants some respect as he heads to Aintree.

Since winning at Grade 1 in an Ascot effort in 2018, Waiting Patiently has been in the frame in every run since.

Those were all strong contests as well.

There was no appearance for Waiting Patiently at the Cheltenham Festival this year, hinting that he was really targeting this one.

Coming up on a trip is likely to serve him very well. A 3m trip on a relatively flat course looks to be right within his scope.

Waiting Patiently is a quote of 7/2 for success in Betway Bowl Chase betting odds* (odds recorded on April 7th, 2021 at 20:15 GMT at Betway).

The reliable Native River ready to raid Ascot?

You generally know what you are going to get from NATIVE RIVER. That is a good, strong, honest effort.

From his three previous visits to Aintree, Native River has won twice and he arrives on the back of a decent run at the Gold Cup.

He stuck to the task well at the Cheltenham Festival to take a fourth-place finish. That was after a score in the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase in February.

The 11-year-old has Jonjo O’Neill Jr in the saddle and Native River benefitted from good persistent handling at the Gold Cup. He could be in the mix.

Can Tiger Roll have a taste of victory at Aintree

Ok, so it’s not the Grand National for TIGER ROLL this year, despite winning the last two editions of the great steeplechase.

Connections pulled him because of what they thought was unfair weight allocation.

So instead of being at risk in the big one, Tiger Roll switches to this 3m 1f trip instead.

He arrives on the back of a brilliant win at the Felarclas Cross Country at the Cheltenham Festival last month.

That was the third win for Tiger Roll in that fixture. This is just such a different test for him, but he retains a lot of class and ability.

It will be interesting to see how he handles this much shorter challenge. Will it all be a little too sharp for him?

Tiger Roll is a 6/1 quote in Betway Bowl Chase betting* (odds recorded on April 7th, 2021 at 20:15 GMT at Betway).

Could Clondaw Castle outrun his odds?

The 11/2 quote on CLONDAW CASTLE in Betway Bowl chase horse racing betting odds, could see him a little overpriced* (odds recorded on April 7th, 2021 at 20:15 GMT at Betway).

It has been two wins in five runs for him this season, the most recent of which was at Kempton 40 days ago. That was in the Close Brothers Handicap Chase.

There were signs of this coming as Clondaw Castle finished last season so very strongly.

That Grade 3 win at Kempton built on an earlier success this season at Newbury.

He does arguably need another big step forward in improvement still, but place claims are not unreasonable for the 9-year-old.

The rest of the runners in Betway Bowl betting 2021

ASO was second to Cloth Cap at the Premier Chase at Kelso on his penultimate. He just looks far from his strongest days.

Aso was never a challenger in the Cheltenham Gold Cup on his latest run, making a bad error in the contest.

MILITARIAN is the outsider for this contest. Given that he didn’t land a blow at all in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham on his last effort, he’s probably going to find this one far too hot for him as well.

Inconsistency has plagued MISTER FISHER this season. He has failed to complete two of his three runs, but in the middle of those misses was a victory in the Peterborough Chase at Cheltenham. His jumping just doesn’t look strong enough.

REAL STEEL never completed the King George after pulling up two from home in that contest. He did take a third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup before that, running up steam.

Predictions & Tips for Betway Bowl Chase Racing Odds

There is such a strong line up here for this Grade 1 contest. It’s a very competitive fixture as well. We are going to look past TIGER ROLL as we think this is too sharp for him.

CLAN DES OBEAUX looks like a genuine threat in the contest. It may not take too much for him to get back to his best and the cheekpieces could help him out.

He has been through some greenlining contests this year, but he’s relatively refreshed for this one.

So Clan Des Obeaux at 3/1 has definite appeal* (odds recorded on April 7th, 2021 at 20:15 GMT at Betway).

But our main selection for the contest is WAITING PATIENTLY because he is coming back up to the 3m trip.

That puts him right in the picture for us and he has been very competitive in some contests this season.

This is quite the open renewal of the Betway Bowl and we think Waiting Patiently gets there at 7/2* (odds recorded on April 7th, 2021 at 20:15 GMT at Betway).

For a look at one that is a little longer in the odds, then that will be CLONDAW CASTLE.

Another step forward in improvement is needed for this, but he’s proven that he is heading in the right direction and warrants a look.
