Blue Mist looks to score Saturday’s opener

BLUE MIST will be trying out at the 6f distance for the first time. This could be a defining moment as he looks to really find himself. Last year he took on a couple of 7f trips at Ascot and did alright, notably placing in the Heritage Handicap in July.

Blue Mist had a disappointing miss on his last effort which was on June 12th, taking second in a field of five at Newbury. Having been a little bit hit and miss over the longer trips, his engine could fire perfectly coming down to this 6f trip.

He has to carry some respect in this one. He goes as the current 11/2 market leader* (betting odds taken from Boylesports are 06:02 GMT on Friday, 19th June 2020).

SWINDLER
5/1

Boylesports

SWINDLER

SWINDLER is going to be fancied and well supported by punters as well for this contest. He is a more seasoned traveller than the favourite is over the distance. So he has equally as big claims.

Swindler returned from his winter break and took fifth place at Newmarket in early June. It wasn’t the worst run in the world and he looked like he needed it. He’ll be sharper for this contest.

He won twice at Ascot last season and he has been well treated in the handicap as well. As a current 5/1 option, there is big appeal on him to deliver* (betting odds taken from Boylesports are 06:02 GMT on Friday, 19th June 2020).

APLOMB

There were a couple of wins last summer for APLOMB and his track record at Ascot isn’t bad. He finished runner up in two efforts at the course last year. He recently had a return with a decent enough effort to open the pipes a bit at Newmarket. On the slower ground here, there is a big chance that he is going to be well in the frame and carries a threat from 6/1* (betting odds taken from Boylesports are 06:02 GMT on Friday, 19th June 2020).

PASS THE VINO

Another with some good claims is PASS THE VINO who was unlucky over course and distance last year, settling for second place. He is definitely one to keep on side for the shortlist because he beat four of this field at Newmarket recently with a third-place finish. A very good option for a place claim from out at 18/1* (betting odds taken from Boylesports are 06:02 GMT on Friday, 19th June 2020).

BURMESE WALTZ

There was a positive return from BURMESE WALTZ recently who scored at Kempton over a 6f trip. That was on his debut for a new yard and there may well be a little extra to come from him. He certainly looked in good shape, even though this is going among much tougher company.

He’s low in the weights and could put something decent together. Burmese Waltz is a 12/1 current quote* (betting odds taken from Boylesports are 06:02 GMT on Friday, 19th June 2020).

Other Contenders

COUNT D’ORSAY had a good return to action when he scored a third-place finish at Newmarket over 5f. That was at the same mark at which he goes for this one. He had a very good 2019 but all at the shorter tip than this.

Scoring on his last run was MAGICAL WISH with a triumph at Linfield. That was the sharpest he has been seen at for a while after his form dipped towards the end of last season. That Lingfield effort was in March and comes down in trip and the conditions may just be on his side with the going towards soft.

If NAHAAR can rediscover the kind of form that he showed at the start of the last campaign, when he landed a four-timer, he may have some place claims. He was at the same mark on his latest run at Newmarket on his return and was beaten into fourth.

Predictions & Tips

The conditions could be the deal-breaker here. SWINDLER scored twice at Ascot last year and has had a good recent work out recently before this return. As long as the rain holds off then he has a big, big chance to score here.

If the ground softens further then it could just swing things in favour of BLUE MIST. He has a big engine but he hasn’t been a fit at longer trips. So ultimately it could prove to be the 6f trip is right in his wheelhouse.

We also like the look of BURMESE WALTZ to put together a strong challenge in this one. A record score at Kempton for a new yard was a very promising step forward for him. This is a step up but a place isn’t out of the question.
