But still, there was another very credible effort produced by Sceau Royal in this sphere and he should be right in the thick of things and well supported on the weekend.

Song For Someone to put another bold bid

SONG FOR SOMEONE took the win in last year’s edition of this race from a quote of 6/1 in similar conditions.

He will be better for having had his reappearance run three weeks ago.

That saw him get right back on track with a runner-up spot earned at Ascot.

That was a 3 Coral Hurdle over a longer trip and it should serve as a good sharpener for his title defence.

Song For Someone did go off the boil last spring, but that was a very encouraging return to top form from him.

It is unlikely that he is going to give up his crown without a fight.

Guard Your Dreams brings claims

An interesting one taking on the Unibet International Hurdle challenge at Cheltenham on the weekend is GUARD YOUR DREAMS.

He is from a winning yard and could get right into this. Guard Your Dreams has been pushing his form forward this season very nicely.

He opened the season with a course handicap win at two and a half miles.

Then he went to the Grade 2 Coral Hurdle last time out where met Song For Someone.

Guard Your Dreams did finish behind that rival in the contest, but it was an extremely credible run.

He is on that is heading in the right direction and can’t be totally dismissed from 6/1* (odds recorded at 21:55 GMT on December 10th, 2021 at Unibet).

Can Ballyadam get involved?

The season opener for BALLYADAM did not go to plan as he took a tumble. But he took his form forward from that.

On his latest run, Ballyadam took a runner up spot over the fences at Navan on a 2m 1f trip last month.

He was nowhere near the winner in that one, but some very good performances in novice hurdles last season may give him a chance at the places.

Ballyadam was at the Cheltenham Festival earlier this year where he took a runner-up finish in the Supreme.

Heaven Help Us

There was a big bright moment for HEAVEN HELP US at the Cheltenham Festival back in March, where she put in a commanding win.

Heaven Help Us bottled up to storm the Coral Cup field at the Festival.

She was in very good shape last season and should be better for a recent reappearance too.

Heaven Help Us had her seasonal opener in a Punchestown listed contest a month ago after a break of seven months.

Hunters Call

There was a victory for HUNTERS CALL a month ago on his reappearance. That was a very smart run from him to take the win at Bangor in a handicap.

The veteran 11-year-old produced a career-best in that one.

While that was a decent piece of form, he is going up against some very strong youngsters on the weekend which could hamper him.

Wilde About Oscar

There was some impressive novice hurdle form produced by WILDE ABOUT OSCAR last season. So there could be plenty to come from him this term.

He never got involved on his reappearance, a two and a half mile trip around Aintree a month ago.

That was nowhere near the kind of form and promise that Wilde About Oscar was showing last season.

But he is capable and the shorter trip on offer on Saturday may help him push to a revival.

There’s a great battle ahead between SCEAU ROYAL and last year’s winner SONG FOR SOMEONE.

It may turn out that there isn’t much splitting them on the day. But slight preference is for SCEAU ROYAL as the 9/4 favourite* (odds recorded at 21:55 GMT on December 10th, 2021 at Unibet).

Not only has there been those hurdles success this season, but he ran with tremendous credit to place in the Fighting Fifth last time out.

SONG FOR SOMEONE should be right there after going well in the Coral Hurdle on his return last month.
