One of the big features of Thursday’s racing action from Newmarket is Abernant Stakes betting.
This is a Group 3 fixture and there are 7 runners declared for this year’s renewal.
Returning to a shot at defending his title in this race is OXTED who is the current odds-on favourite.
He looks to be the one to beat over the 6f.

Summerghand 11/2
Emaraaty Ana 8/1
Exalted Angle 9/1

Oxted 8/11 FAV for Abernant Stakes Betting odds
Well, there is a clear favourite for this fixture and that is the winner of the previous edition OXTED.
He comes back to his happy hunting ground as the 8/11 favourite in Abernant Stakes betting* (odds record at 23:10 GMT on April 14th, 2021 at Coral).
There was a reappearance run from him out in Riyadh a couple of months ago. He didn’t take to the dirt too well in that fixture and finished seventh.
That’s probably nothing to worry about and a line can be drawn through that result. Oxted was flourishing last season on the turf.
So back on this more familiar surface, he should be fine. After winning this fixture last June, Oxted then went on to claim the July Cup.
Oxted just looks to be head and shoulders above the rest of this field if he returns to his best.
If nothing else, the trip to Riyadh should have sharpened him up.
Summerghand to seure the double?
There was a narrow win for SUMMERGHAND last time out, which was at Lingfield on a 6f trip. He got the win by a head over Exalted Angel 12 days ago in that contest.
Summerghand moves back up in Grade for this one and he has to be respected on the back of that. The switch to the visor appeared to help him last time out.
He retains that in this. He handled himself well in that latest fixture, but it remains to be seen if his overall form this season is good enough to overturn the clear favourite in this one.
Given what he has put down so far, that’s slightly in doubt. But there’s no question that place claims are there.
Emaraaty Ana to mount a challenge?
EMARAATY ANA took part in last year’s renewal and was heavily beaten at the end of the day by Oxted.
But having been the best of the rest, there is acne that he gets his nose back in the frame in this one.
On his reappearance run, he went very well to claim second place at Doncaster in the Cammidge 19 days ago.
That was also his first run since wind surgery and came after a 7-month break. So Emaraaty Ana does certainly pique plenty of interest for this run.
The 2018 Gimcrack winner should be sharper and we think is the bigger threat to the favourite than Summerghand is.
Emaraaty Ana is a quote of 11/2 to come up with the win* (odds record at 23:10 GMT on April 14th, 2021 at Coral).

Shine So Bright
SHINE SO BRIGHT comes in at a 10/1 quote in Abernant Stakes betting odds* (odds record at 23:10 GMT on April 14th, 2021 at Coral).
He couldn’t quite deliver a win last season. But he kicked off this campaign with a bit of promise for trainer Andrew Balding.
There was a second-place finish in a rare handicap for him last month and he looked pretty keen in it.
That was Shine So Bright’s first run in four months and he was beaten only by a head.
Still, that was a long way short of the kind of form that he is going to need to produce on Thursday to be able to take this.
Can Exalted Angel make a positive switch to the turf?
EXALTED ANGEL has hit a bit of decent form recently, by the caveat is that it has been on the all-weather.
On his penultimate run, he scored at Lingfield in the Kachay Stakes on a 6f trip. There was an even better effort from him on his follow up.
He was beaten by a head by Summerghand earlier this month. But the question mark here has to be whether or not he can turn that form over to the turf, which is not guaranteed.
Exalted angel is a 9/1 quote in Abernant Stakes betting* (odds record at 23:10 GMT on April 14th, 2021 at Coral).
Jouska
JOUSKA makes a return after 180 days away from the action. She did impress in scoring a course and distance fixture on her penultimate run of last year. S
he was then challenged by being pushed up in grade at Ascot and that didn’t work out at all. If Jouska gets things right fresh, then place claims are reasonable enough.
Marly
We don’t really see much chance of MARLY getting into the frame in this contest.
He was useful in France and was last seen 18 days ago when he was fourth-placed at Doncaster. There’s a big jump forward in quality that he is facing in this one.
Predictions & Tips for Abernant Stakes Betting Odds
We don’t see anyone getting the better of OXTED in this fixture at all and have to stick with the 8/11 fav* (odds record at 23:10 GMT on April 14th, 2021 at Coral).
He is just too good, too high quality and that reappearance run, albeit on the dirt in the middle east, should have at least sharpened him up for a strong reappearance back on home turf.
The closest challenger to him we think from this field is EMARAATY ANA who was beaten by Oxted in last year’s edition.
We don’t see Emaraaty Ana turning the tables on him but he certainly warrants a look at 3/1 in the W/O Oxted market to get the better of Summerghand.
