Motagally 5/1 FAV for Great St Wilfrid Handicap Odds

The race favourite currently from a quote of 5/1 is MOTAGALLY* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:03 GMT on Saturday, 15th August 2020). It has been fine form that he has put down since his return to action.

He scored a win on his last effort, winning a handicap at Bath at the 6f trip. That was 25 days ago and although he is the front runner he is going to have a couple of things against him. He is coming back up in grade and has a poor draw out wide.

But it has been three wins in his last five trips and he is coming along very well. Notably, in that Bath fixture, Motagally had Chil Chil behind him, who was a very impressive Ascot winner. So the serious claims are there for this one.

BRIAN THE SNAIL
11/1

Can defending champion Dakota Gold mount a challenge

Last year’s winner of the Great St Wilfrid Handicap was DAKOTA GOLD who is back for another crack at it. His form throughout his build-up towards this is not where it was twelve months ago.

However, he has been among better company than this up at higher grades. So there may well be a fancy for him as he drops to this handicap fixture.

The reigning champion is an 8/1 quote to get the win* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:03 GMT on Saturday, 15th August 2020).

Staxton looks a big threat in the field

STAXTON looks to have been very well treated by the handicapper for this fixture. He is a recent course and distance winner to add to his claims as well.

He got that win on his last run, which was just over a week ago, beating Watchable (who went on to win his next race) at C&D.

Based on that he should be well in the frame here, even though he takes a 4lb rise for this.

Can Gunmetal produce another win?

2018 winner of this race GUNMETAL is in some decent form. He struck back to some much-improved form last time out as he finished third behind Staxton over course and distance 10 days ago.

He has not won since landing this fixture a couple of years ago, but his rating and current form looks solid.

Gunmetal is a 9/1 quote currently in Great St Wilfrid Handicap odds* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:03 GMT on Saturday, 15th August 2020).

Brian The Snail not to be dismissed

Since returning to action this season, BRIAN THE SNAIL has looked in sharp form. He won on his renewal but his performance in the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood was just brilliant.

He went off from wife in the stalls and still managed to put in a third place finish behind Summerghand.

He sticks with jockey Megan Nicholls who claims 3lb. He should be respected at 14/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:03 GMT on Saturday, 15th August 2020).

Watchable is one to watch as well

The form of WATCHABLE is on the up with his current form. Just a week ago he scored a win at Thirsk without really having to touch on his top form.

But on his following run, he produced a great effort over course and distance to land second place behind Staxton.

So there is every chance that he can get back into the frame at 16/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:03 GMT on Saturday, 15th August 2020).

Kimifive could get into the frame

KIMIFIVE brings a decent challenge to the table for this one. He is sitting well in the handicap for this fixture and on his last trip, he almost put a win on the board.

He was last seen in the Stewards’s Cup at Glorious Goodwood where he was edged out by Summerghand.

However, Kimifive did come on very well at the end of that. There rightly should be strong claims from 8/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:03 GMT on Saturday, 15th August 2020).

Others to note

CITRON MAJOR may have some claims here. In July he produced a course and distance win, in which Brian The Snail was third. However, his following run, a relatively poor effort of course and distance won’t see punters retain tremendous faith.

GOLDEN APOLLO scored a win at Ayr in the Silver Cup on his last effort of last season. He returned to York for his reappearance and went well to claim a second place. He has struggled a little on his two efforts since.

TYPHOON TEN scored a win on his last trip. He produced the best of his career so far when winning a 6f trip at Windsor a couple of weeks ago. He takes on an extra 4lb but this is a much tougher trip.

Predictions & Tips for Great St Wilfred Handicap Racing Odds

This should be a brilliant fixture. There are plenty of claims flying around in this one without question. We are going to pull three names out of the list for this one.

MOTAGALLY definitely checks a few boxes for us as he has great form at the moment and looks to have the pace to cause a problem or two. So he is one of our picks.

Because of what he produced under the same jockey last time out at the Stewards’ Cup at the Glorious Goodwood Festival, BRIAN THE SNAIL has some appeal for this fixture as an e/w pick.

The final pick for this big race is STAXTON. We can’t ignore the recent course and distance winner at all and even though he takes on a little more weight, he may be able to get in the picture.
