can Joyful Mission enjoy himself at Doncaster?
USA import JOYFUL MISSION lines up as the current 5/2 favourite for this Doncaster handicap on Saturday* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:48 GMT on Friday 12th June 2020). He looks as if he will benefit in coming back down to a 1m trip.
Joyful Mission was fourth on his last trip at one and a quarter miles, but that was down to him pushing too hard too soon. He has been gelded since his last run and on comes the tongue strap as well. A good four-year-old, trained by Sir Micahel Stoute, Joyful Mission warrants respect at the head of the field.
Hattrick chance for Triple Distilled
11/2 option is TRIPLE DISTILLED* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:48 GMT on Friday 12th June 2020). He is on a hattrick after back to back wins to close out his efforts from last summer. It will be a 322-day break that he returns from. But he was on the money last year.
He didn’t finish outside of the top four in any of his last four runs and was improving all the time. His big change is having had wind surgery since his time away from the track. Triple Distilled is a good progressive horse and shouldn’t be too far from being in the frame given his stats.
Asdaa worth keeping on side
One to watch for this contest is ASDAA who has had a good start to this season. He has posted two wins this year, both on the a/w. One was at Chelmsford and the other one at Wolverhampton.
He stayed on well enough in his last contest, a 7f trip at Newmarket in early June to claim third. That was after a three-month break and so he could be sharper and Asdaa is worth keeping on side in this company as he stays at the same mark.
Tricorn to benefit from handicapping?
TRICORN is at the bottom of the ratings for this run. He is looking to snap a winless streak which stretches back to 2017. Tricorn just wasn’t on his game last season at all.
He made his return in January taking fourth place at Wolverhampton. At 10/1 there may be some appeal* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:48 GMT on Friday 12th June 2020).
Others to consider
TESTON is a good horse, who has won four times over in France. But the handicapper has stuck him with top weight as he comes into action for the first time since September last year. He is with a new stable and has cheekpieces for the first time.
Another of the higher-rated horses is KING’S PAVILION who made an appearance at Newmarket earlier this month. He was at the back of the field for that one and well beaten. He did win an amateur’s handicap in October, but his last run may send appeal elsewhere.
CAUSTIC LOVE scored a win at Newcastle in handicap action just back in February. He followed that up by sterling to handle a 5lb rise on a trip at Wolverhampton afterwards. But he is at the bottom of the ratings for this.
Predictions & Tips
There are two standout contenders for this one and the first of those is the favourite JOYFUL MISSION. He is at top weight but is wonderfully progressive. The gelding operation should unlock something a little more from him and is worth supporting.
The other that we have to pay note to is the exciting TRIPLE DISTILLED who notably has had wind surgery. It’s been a long time away from the track, but promising performances at the back end of last summer really should put him in the picture.
As our outside shot, we do feel that there is something there in TRICORN and CAUSTIC LOVE who are both 10/1 shots* (betting odds taken from Betway at 23:48 GMT on Friday 12th June 2020). They both have something to prove up at this level, but with weight-favours, may pose a threat.
