Horse Racing Betting

Bandsman is narrowly sitting at the head of the Uttoxeter Summer Cup Handicap Chase betting market.

Yes, national hunt racing is making its return this week.

This is Race 6 from Uttoxeter on Monday’s card and there is set to be a big duel between Batsman and Padleyourowncanoe. At least that is what was expected.

The Uttoxeter Summer Cup Handicap Chase is a Listed Class 1 fixture for the card and it is a big test of endurance for those getting stuck into action in this one.

The trip is over 3m 2f and there are 12 declared for the run.

Bandsman well supported in Summer Cup Handicap Chase betting

There is a fair chance that the current 9/2 favourite BANDSMAN won’t be going to the start as the favourite* (betting odds taken from bet365 at 20:33 GMT on Sunday 5th July 2020). That is because of the market pressure and support for Padleyourowncanoe.

Anyway, this will be a reappearance for Bandsman after taking a good second place finish at Market Rasen in mid-January in the Weatherbys Racing Bank Handicap Chase. He had scored at that venue at this current mark in May last year.

The 9 year old did fall out of form in the build up to that race and it was certainly a good refresher of form from him. He did appear at Uttoxeter last summer and collected second in a 15f Handicap Chase.

Paddle Your Own Canoe with plenty to offer in Summer Cup Handicap Chase betting

PADLEYOUROWNCANOE comes back after a 244 day absence in national hunt action. His last effort was on the flat at Newcastle at the end of February this year.

He scored a fourth of seven in that run, which saw him miss out on a hat-trick. Padleyourowncanoe goes as a 5/1 quote currently* (betting odds taken from bet365 at 20:33 GMT on Sunday 5th July 2020).

It has been one win from two Chase efforts from him, the score happening at Exeter in October on a 3m trip. He was useful over the hurdles and could make a decent case for himself here.

Brian Boranha worth a look?

Even though he is a longer option in Summer Cup Handicap betting odds at 12/1, BRIAN BORANHA may be worth a look* (betting odds taken from bet365 at 20:33 GMT on Sunday 5th July 2020).

We are basing that off his last effort which was at Musselburgh at the start of February. He came home fifth in that contest at 3m 3f and he stayed on very well up to cover three miles before fading a little.

There were also some mistakes fumbled out by him in the middle of the race. But if he can put together a sharper effort after a 156 day break, then there could be something in this for him.

Can Hepijeu return in good form?

Before heading into what has been more than a seven month break, HEPIJEU had put together some good form.

The 9 year old is a wonderfully consistent performer and didn’t finish outside of the places in any appearance last year. This will be his first run since a second place at Fakenham in mid-October.

The question will be over the distance for him having not gone above the 3m trip before. However he scored at Worcester on his last Chase effort at 2m 7f.

So he has been productive, and place claims wouldn’t be a surprise for him in this, albeit among better company Hepijeu is an 11/1 option* (betting odds taken from bet365 at 20:33 GMT on Sunday 5th July 2020).

Doing Fine to perform?

Another to consider in this very interesting field is DOING FINE who nailed a success on his trip.

The veteran scored at 26f success at Cheltenham on January 1st this year and again showed what he has continuously done throughout his career, namely superb staying power.

The 12 year old may pull in some support to huff and puff his way into the places. He is certainly an interesting contender in Summer Cup Handicap Chase betting at 13/2* (betting odds taken from bet365 at 20:33 GMT on Sunday 5th July 2020)

Others to note

It’s a little hard to read THE YOUNG MASTER who secured a second place finish in the Bet365 Gold Cup in his last effort of the 2019 campaign. He lined up in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham and made an error to take him out of it.

FOR GOOD MEASURE opened his Chase account with a 3m success at Warwick back in October. But he looked a totally different horse on his next trip, finishing well down the field a month later at Exeter. He’s not always the hardest of workers.

Predictions & Tips

This should be a really good contest. PADLEYOUROWNCANOE does appear to have plenty of room for improvement after having been lightly raced and is our pick of the two at the head of the market.

We can’t dismiss the chases of HEPIJEU either if he can pick up where he left off earlier this year. He was bang in form and could easily pose a threat in the contest.

The other that we would pull towards is THE YOUNG MASTER who will have punters worrying about his jumping form. But he was travelling very well at the Cheltenham Festival and could have something to offer refreshed.
