Indigo Girl can storm the field at Newmarket

Horse Racing Betting

The Newmarket Fillies’ Mile is one of the big headlining acts from the racetrack on Friday. It’s a great day of racing booked there.

PRETTY GORGEOUS is the current market leader for what appears to be a really competitive renewal.

There are 11 declared for this year’s contest which obviously is over a 1m trip.

The conditions are set to be soft and this big Group 1 fixture takes a look at some of the promising 2 year olds around.

Last year’s winner was QUADRILATERAL from a 9/4 SP (Jason Watson / R Charlton)

Pretty Gorgeous the 11/4 FAV for Newmarket Fillies’ Mile

This looks as if it is going to be a fantastic, uber-competitive race. It is PRETTY GORGEOUS who is the current 11/4 favourite* (betting odds taken from 22:53 GMT on Thursday, October 8th 2020).

It has been an impressive showing so far from the 2 year old. She has won two of her four runs, scoring a second place in the other two runs she has had.

She will be expected to be in the frame right again. In August she beat SHALE in a Group 2 run at the Curragh over a 7f trip.

The tables were turned on Pretty Gorgeous as she re-opposed Shale again in the Moyglare on her last run.

But she didn’t get the clearest of runs in that contest. We expect further progress from her on a step up in trip now. So Pretty Gorgeous has to be a big contender.

INDIGO GIRL
7/2

Shale to mix it with Pretty Gorgeous once again

SHALE and PRETTY GORGEOUS are evenly matched as their recent meetings have already shown.

So Shale should be back in the frame here. It has been three wins in her five career runs so far, those all happening after an indifferent debut.

She has Ryan Moore booked for this trip and therefore she is going to be well backed again.

Shale took a win over Pretty Gorgeous in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes by three quarters of a length. She has to be on the shortlist.

Indigo Girl could delver

It has been two runs and two wins for INDIGO GIRL so far and she is a 3/1 option for this race* (betting odds taken from 22:53 GMT on Thursday, October 8th 2020).

She needs a ton of respect for the trip as well. On her last win, she impressed a lot to get the May Hill at Doncaster.

There is a lot of potential and a stack of progress there to come from here. In the May Hill she had plenty to spare.

There was a lot more in the tank had the race been a tougher contest for her. She is very well bred and could probably find herself in the frame.

Isabella Giles tough enough to contend

The rapidly improvising ISABELLA GILES needs to be looked at for this one. Back at the Prestige Stakes she romped to a massive victory in soft conditions.

In her last run she showed even more progress when she delivered the win in the Rockfel at Newmarket.

That was a 7f trip so she is taking an extra trip, but she looks as if she can handle it. Isabella Giles is a really scrappy, tough player.

This is the toughest race that she has faced yet, but she has some decent claims to extend that unbeaten streak of hers.

Zabeel Queen open to further progress

Perhaps one of the most interesting runners in this field is ZABEEL QUEEN who makes her third appearance only. She scored a very good debut at Ascot but that was on firmer ground.

Zabeel Queen was then in the May Hill Stakes where she claimed third behind Indigo Girl. She was within 2 lengths of the winner there.

Others to note

DUBAI FOUNTAIN was a second place finisher behind Indigo Girl in the May Hill at Doncaster in September.

That was a good run and it continued some very strong, consistent form from her. But with further progress to come from Indigo Girl, Dubai Fountain may struggle to turn the tables.

STAR OF EMARAATI pulled off a shock win on the July course on her penultimate race. That victory came in the Solera Stakes.

But in her follow up race she went at Doncaster and was behind three of these she re-opposes on Friday.

Predictions & Tips for Newmarket Fillies’ Mile Racing Odds

This is a tough race to call because there are some evenly matched contenders at the head of the field for this one.

PRETTY GORGEOUS and SHALE are hard to separate. But it is the latter who just gets the nod from us at 7/2 of the two* (betting odds taken from 22:53 GMT on Thursday, October 8th 2020).

She is the one to beat with Ryan Moore in the saddle and impressively turning the tables on Pretty Gorgeous in the Moyglare.

But we are going to skip over both of them for this contest and look to INDIGO GIRL at 3/1 * (betting odds taken from 22:53 GMT on Thursday, October 8th 2020).

That’s because of her getting the score in the May Hill. There just looks to be so much more to come that she could out-progress her rivals here.
