Cheltenham Racing Odds & Tips: Race 4 from Saturday’s big card at Cheltenham in the Matchbook Handicap Chase, a 3m 1f trip around the famous course.

This is a Class 2 contest, open to 3-year-olds and above. There are 11 declared runners for this year’s renewal and things have been tight at the head of the market.

MANOFTHEMOUTNAIN is just shading favouritism ahead of the trip.

The winner of last year’s renewal was 7 year old THE CONDITIONAL, who got the job done from a nice 14/1 SP (Tom Cannon / D G Bridgwater).

Manofthemountain 9/2 FAV for Matchbook Handicap Chase Cheltenham Racing Odds

Although the market is tight depending on where you look, MANOFTHEMOUNTAIN is currently the 9/2 FAV for this fixture* (betting odds taken from Boylesports on October 23rd, 2020 at 21:17 GMT).

He will be looking to back up a win on his recent reappearance run.

All four of the trips that he has completed over the fences, Manofthemountain has won. That includes his reappearance run at Bangor last month.

It was a comfortable win as well at the 3m trip, winning by a 1l margin.

For this Cheltenham trip on Saturday, Manofthemountain is going from 1lb outside of the handicap.

This will easily be the strongest, stiffest challenge that he has faced. But so far he is on a very good trajectory.

COGRY
13/2

Boylesports

Former winner Cogry could shine again

This will be the reappearance run for COGRY who was the 2017 winner of this contest. He is always a good performer at this track.

He has won four times before at Cheltenham and has one win and two runners-up places from six previous C&D efforts.

In this particular race, he followed up with back to back place finishes after his win in 2017.

Cogry collected a Grade 3 win in Cheltenham for the second year running in December, confirming his form at Cheltenham.

Cogry is only up 3lb from that win in December. He brings big claims again from 13/2* (betting odds taken from Boylesports on October 23rd, 2020 at 21:17 GMT).

Can Frodon make his presence felt?

One of the big names in the field is FRODON. The 2019 Ryanair winner and he is another with a great track record at Cheltenham.

He has produced some dominant form in the last couple of years at the venue.

He didn’t quite hit his heights for the large part of the previous campaign. Frodon could only manage a fourth place finish on his Ryanair defence this year.

This will be the first trip since then.

In such a competitive fixture, it looks as if it is going to take a lot from him to get the score from 11/2* (betting odds taken from Boylesports on October 23rd, 2020 at 21:17 GMT).

Can West Approach produce a big run?

WEST APPROACH is a big player when he is in the mood. He did well over the fences last season here at Cheltenham.

That included a second place finish in last season’s renewal of this race. That was a reappearance run for West Approach as well.

He hasn’t been seen since March when he pulled up in a Grade 1 hurdle race here at Cheltenham. It will be very interesting to see how the wily veteran goes on this season’s reappearance.

West Approach is being well-respected in the market at 15/2* (betting odds taken from Boylesports on October 23rd, 2020 at 21:17 GMT).

Can Bob Mahler claim a reappearance win?

History would suggest that BOB MAHLER would need a reappearance run under his belt before heading into something like this.

He closed out last season in good heart, claiming a win and three place finishes in each of his last four trips.

The win that he took in that sequence was at Musselburgh at the Edinburgh Festival. Bob Mahler did take part at this year’s Cheltenham Festival in the Kim Muir where he took third place.

He’s a good performer at the track and retains the cheekpieces. He is worth keeping an eye on from a quote of 12/1 with each way claims* (betting odds taken from Boylesports on October 23rd, 2020 at 21:17 GMT).

Cloth Cap commands respect

CLOTH CAP failed to get a win on the board last season, but still retains some of the potential that saw him take third place in the Scottish Novice as a novice last year.

He has been fairly consistent since then. The last time he was in action was in March at the Cheltenham Festival.

Cloth Cap lined up in the Kim Muir was 8th of 23 in that, a respectable run. This will be the first time for a while that he has faced good conditions.

In fact he hasn’t been on good turf since that 2019 trip at Ayr in the Scottish National.

He is 13/2 option for this field* (betting odds taken from Boylesports on October 23rd, 2020 at 21:17 GMT).

Others to note

PERFECT CANDIDATE finished off the last campaign in good style. He scored a win at Haydock before following up with back to back runners-up places.

He shouldn’t be phased by the 3m trip in this contest and will go from 3lb out of the handicap.

SENSULANO could have a say in this with the right run. On his final start of the last campaign he finished down the field at Kempton after nearly being brought down.

But overall the form of Sensulano last season over the fences was very good. This longer trip should suit well.

Predictions & Tips for Racing Odds

Another fantastic race for Saturday and there are a lot of good claims on the table here.

Our first pick is going to be COGRY who is a proven performer at Cheltenham. The 2017 winner has to feature after having made the frame in the last two renewals as well.

We have to throw MANOFTHEMOUNTAIN into the mix as well. He won’t have faced anything like this before.

But the way that he has been both progressing and winning has been so impressive that we have to expect him to feature.

We would throw some consideration to WEST APPROACH as well. That’s because he did well in the last campaign here at Cheltenham over the fences.

It wouldn’t be a big surprise to see him put a positive run together on his reappearance.
