16:40 Ascot Sandringham Stakes Odds & Tips: Boylesports offer 15/8 on African Dream – 18th June 2020

African Dream could be tough to top in Fillies' Handicap

Horse Racing Betting

The last action from Thursday’s Royal Ascot card is the Sandringham Stakes. This is a Class 2 Fillies’ Handicap which is open to 3-year-olds only. This is a 1m blast down the Ascot straight.

There are 18 declared for this exciting contest which was won by Thanks Be last year from a huge 33/1 SP. She is the only winner of the race since 2010 to score at under 8 7 weight, and it was a remarkable effort.

That was the second long-priced winner in the last three editions often Sandringham Stakes after 20/1 shot Con Te Partiro scored in 2017.

AFRICAN DREAM

The current 15/8 favourite for the Sandringham Stakes is AFRICAN DREAM, trained by John Gosden* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 05:09 GMT on Wednesday, 17th June 2020). It has been a good short career from her so far.

The highlight of that was breaking her maiden at Lingfield in early March this year, taking the score by a neck over Rhyme Scheme. In her most recent run, she impressed again to take second place by a nose in a 7f Newbury contest.

The interesting thing about that run from African Dream was that she was giving up 7lb to winner Stylistique, who was runner up at the Rockfel. She will bring some very strong claims in this company.

SOFFIKA

Sir Michael Stoute has a big chance in this one as well with SOFFIKA. She scored a win on her debut which was at Pontefract in June last year. She had a trip at Newcastle in August that year and was a strong second in that.

Soffika has been away from the racetrack since then, so she will be an interesting option coming back fresh.

She’s nicely positioned in the handicap as well at 97 for this contest, which should put her in the frame as a 6/1 contender* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 05:09 GMT on Wednesday, 17th June 2020).

DECLARED INTEREST

DECLARED INTEREST looks to be a good progressive filly who has improved on each of her racetrack appearances so far. That culminated in a win at Chelmsford City earlier this month, a comfortable two-length success at 8F.

She is a no-nonsense runner who looks to have more to come and is a good 8/1 pick* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 05:09 GMT on Wednesday, 17th June 2020).

DUBAI LOVE

DUBAI LOVE has had a little more racetrack experience under her belt than some of the other front runners in this one. All four of her runs this year have been at Meydan where she looked to be shaping up very well.

She scored in one of those runs as well, an 8F Class 1 effort and she gets Frankie Dettori into the saddle for this one, which is very interesting. She should be an exciting contender from 9/1* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 05:09 GMT on Wednesday, 17th June 2020).

WALIYAK

It was third-time lucky for WALIYAK who broke her maiden at Wolverhampton in late November. It was a comfortable win as well and she looks a solid progressive type that can contend. At the end of the day, this looks to be an open field. This is her first run as a three-year-old so has a lot more to come.

Other contenders

FESTIVE STAR showed enough through early trips to pull into possible contention here. The last start that she had on heavy ground can be totally wiped off. She scored back to back wins, including listed success before that.

The extra trip could play into the hands WEJDAN in this one. She scored her maiden in August at Newbury and in a Group 2 effort following that, she showed a good step to claim fifth. Could have some place claims.

HUBOOR does look to have the scope to improve as well. There was a notable improvement from her when she went up to 7f at Newmarket in September when she scored. She could enjoy the extra push on a mile trip.

Predictions & Tips

This is wide open we feel but the manner in which AFRICAN DREAM has performed so well, we have to keep her on side. Given the weights are favourable for her as well, she should be close.

The main contenders we see include WALIYAK who had such a good time as a 2-year-old. Now handicapping and returning as a three-year-old there should be even more to come from her.

The other has to be DECLARED INTEREST who scored on her handicap debut at Chelmsford on a 1m trip just over a week ago. That was her return to action as well after the winter break. Big claims.
