Can English King rule as Epsom Derby odds favourite?

What a situation here for ENGLISH KING. He has been so well supported and is a youngster who is fast improving all the time.

After securing the Lingfield Derby Trial his stock went through the roof for this Epsom Downs run.

However, there has been one big hurdle thrown in his path for this flat contest. That is the draw as he will be going from stall one.

Just three Epsom Derby winners have come from that stall. In the last 20 years there has been only one winner to come from the three lowest stalls combined.

So it’s a tough draw but that win in beating Berkshire Rocco in that Derby Trial, with some ease as well it has to be said, does keep plenty of interest in him.

Will he be able to take the massive leap forward that he promises so much from this race?

English King has Frankie Dettori in the saddle but with a lot of work to do, despite being the 7/2 favourite in Epsom Derby odds* (betting odds taken from Betway at 22:42 GMT on Friday 3rd July 2020).

RUSSIAN EMPEROR
11/2

Can Kameko chase down Classic double?

It is a stall eleven that KAMEKO will launch his Epsom Derby challenge from. It has been back to back wins from him. The latest of those wins happened at the 2000 Guineas.

That Newmarket effort came on his reappearance and with the form that he has behind him, then he should be bringing some leading claims.

Oisin Murphy is in the saddle, but the extra trip is going to be a big question mark.

Kameko is the current 5/1 second favorite in Epsom Derby odds* (betting odds taken from Betway at 22:42 GMT on Friday 3rd July 2020).

Mogul gets Moore but a poor draw

MOGUL will be going from stall 2 which is a poor draw that could hit his chances. Jockey Ryan Moore has kept some faith by returning to the saddle as the colt looks to kick on.

Mogul was a beaten favourite past time out claiming fourth in the King Edward at Royal Ascot on his reappearance. He has all the tools to be a superb middle distance runner but was beaten by Kameko in the Futurity.

Mogul has drifted slightly to 6/1 in Epsom Derby odds* (betting odds taken from Betway at 22:42 GMT on Friday 3rd July 2020).

Russian Emperor can bring a big presence in Epsom derby odds

A big contender among those at the top of the Epsom Derby odds market is RUSSIAN EMPEROR. He scored on his last trip in the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot and looks as if he will have no trouble going a further quarter mile from that.

He was really game in the Hampton Court, grinding and grinding away to get his success. That’s two wins in his last three efforts now and has to be highly respected in this contest.

Staying on is not going to be an issue and he can make his presence felt from 11/2* (betting odds taken from Betway at 22:42 GMT on Friday 3rd July 2020).

Pyledriver another with a low draw

There was some interest starting to swing towards PYLDEDRIVER who beat Mohican Heights and Mogul in the King Edward at Royal Ascot. That was a big statement that the colt made in that one.

That came after a good second place on his reappearance and looks back in form after a poor final effort of the previous campaign. But he has been hit with a shocker of a draw from three.

Other Contenders

MAX VEGA isn’t without hope and is our big e/w option for Epsom Derby Odds. He is rated highly enough and has a group win behind him. His reappearance wasn’t anything special at Kempton but he looked as if he needed that. Could step it up to push for a place.

HIGHLAND CHIEF scored on his last effort which was at Royal Ascot. He defied top weight to score under handicap terms there and is another who looks as if he will be fine going up to the mile and a half distance.

MOHICAN HEIGHTS is a smart prospect and was third to Pyledriver in the King Edward at Royal Ascot. He stayed on well, but he wasn’t ever in the right position to do more leaving too much too late.

Predictions & Tips

What a race this could be. There are so many big variables with ENGLISH KING, MOGUL and PYLEDRIVER taking up the first three stalls.

It’s anybody’s guess as to how that is going to open up the field. It would naturally send some further interest over to KAMEKO but we would be concerned about the stamina there.

So fitting the bill for us in Epsom Derby Odds is RUSSIAN EMPEROR at 11/2* (betting odds taken from Betway at 22:42 GMT on Friday 3rd July 2020).

He is to be highly respected here and looks prime to take on the mile and a half challenge from the middle of the stalls.
