18:25 Chepstow Monday: Betfred offer 5/2 racing odds on Peggie Sue – 15th June 2020

Peggie Sue can sweep the field at Chepstow

Horse Racing Betting

Race 4 from Chepstow on Monday evening is a Class 4 handicap as racing returns to South Wales. The race is for horses of at least 4 years of age. This is a short 5f sprint and there are eleven declared for the contest.

The conditions are set to be good to soft-good in places and despite the big field, there is a clear front runner. Peggie Sue is the one that the bookmakers are fearing the most for this exciting-looking contest.

Who can catch Peggie Sue?

The front runner is PEGGIE SUE who is the current 5/2 favourite in this field* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 16:27 GMT on June 14th 2020). She was out at Kempton earlier this month and with a 4lb rise carded a very good fourth place.

That was on the back of a good late effort as well. So there was enough there to warrant her being well respected for this contest. This is a wide-open sprint really and after that credible Kempton effort, she will be looking for what would be her seventh win from 5f to 6f.

Chitra has to be feared

In the 2019 calendar year, CHITRA scored four successes. It was only just back in December that the 4 year old filly managed to win back to back trips at Lingfield.

So she is a threat. She has had some poor efforts in 2020 however, not yet getting up to speed and not varying from 5f contests.

It has been a while since Chitra has been on the turf, but easily one to keep on side from 4/1* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 16:27 GMT on June 14th 2020)

More Than Likely, more than likely to challenge

MORE THAN LIKELY, who scored a good 6f win at Lingfield in late August, is now with new connections. Her last run was a 5f trial at Wolverhampton at the end of October and she came home second in that contest.

She is a fairly reliable runner, having only been outside of the top four in one of her last eight runs. In what will be her first run for Nikki Evans, More Than Likely has been treated extremely well by the handicapper and that makes her a threat.

Can Show Me The Bubbly fizz at Chepstow?

It is a 221 day break that SHOW ME THE BUBBLY returns from. She broke her maiden on what was her turf debut last year in early May. She knocked on the door on a few other occasions before ending the year on the all-weather.

So she may fancy a switch back to the turf. Show Me The Bubbly has had the one trip at Chepstow before, coming home third of seven there last July.

After a disappointing end to 2019 on the a/w she is worth a second look to contend here as a 12/1 e/w option* (betting odds taken from Boylesports at 16:27 GMT on June 14th 2020).

Other Contenders

Going at top weight is OEIL DE TRIGRE who is a course winner. She has been away for about nine months and hasn’t managed to really show much on previous fresh efforts. With the weight burden, there could be struggles for her.

SECRETFACT is a course and distance winner. Looked a little spent at the end of the last campaign, but could offer some place potential if he is on her game for her 2020 opener.

Another who could bring place claims if he is on his game, is SOMEWHERE SECRET. He is at the bottom of the weights but had a sharpener just 9 days ago when he finished in the middle of a pack of 11 at Newcastle. It’s been a while since he scored but this is a wide-open company.

Predictions & Tips

We can see plenty more coming from the favourite PEGGIE SUE and we would lean towards that option. She handled a step up in weight last time out very well.

There was power there at the end when she had settled and it’s unlikely that she is going to be far from scoring in this one.

The other that we will put out of the field as a serious contender is MORE THAN LIKELY. She’s a good, consistent horse and looks likely to be in the frame as she comes back to the turf.
