With 2013 Australian Open tennis upon us, who are the going to be the ones to watch for your tennis betting, beyond the big guns in the field? With the absence of Rafael Nadal in the men’s draw, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer will look to settle matters between them, with the current world number one Djokovic looking for his third title in a row at Melbourne Park. While the eventual winner is likely to come from those three, who is likely to be the fourth player in the semi final and the one with the potential for a big upset?

In the women’s draw, Serena Williams will be the one to stop as she talks about the possibility of making a clean sweep of all Grand Slams this year. Defending Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka will have other ideas and Maria Sharapova will make a strong case for herself as well in 2013 Australian Open tennis betting at online bookmaker Sportingbet. But what about the rest of the field, who is likely to shine beyond the big three?

While the odds of anyone beyond any of the big guns mentioned taking the respective Mens’ and Womens’ title in the Outright Winner betting market are pretty slim, with so many matches to come, there will plenty of value around in Australian Open 2013 tennis match betting at online bookmaker Sportingbet. So this is where value will come in by looking at ones to watch who could have deep runs, but have slim chance of winning because of the top players in the draw.

Can anyone stop Djokovic making it three in a row in Melbourne?
Men’s 2013 Australian Open Tennis Betting Odds and Preview

David Ferrer 30/1
The Spaniard is such a scrappy hard worker that he could challenge. He is the world number five for a reason, and while he is better on clay, he has shown up well in the last two Australian Open’s taking a semi final and quarter final spot. He reached two semi finals and two quarter finals last season in the four Grand Slams. The potential is there for a final four spot for him. Perhaps a better shot than Del Potro because Ferrer is in the top half of the draw, where Nadal would have been. It means that as fourth seed he is likely to be the one to match up to Djokovic in the semi finals. With a good run in Doha and Auckland already this season, Ferrer is looking fit and competitive.

Juan Martin del Potro 24/1
The big serving Argentinean, who took the bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympics, is going to be worth watching. There is that precious fourth spot open in the semi finals, but he would have to do it the hard way. The 24 year old hit the quarter finals in three of the four Grand Slams last year and looked stronger as the season went on. Improving all the time and the massive service of the former US Open winner may get him close. Potential quarter final clash against Andy Murray though and then perhaps Roger Federer in the semis.

Agnieszka Radwanska 18/1
The Polish star has made a cracking start to 2013, going unbeaten over two tournaments. After winning the title in Auckland, in a relatively easy field for her, she powered to the final of Sydney as well where she crushed Dominika Cibulkova 6-0 6-0. That matches up to what Victoria Azarenka did early last season which propelled the Belarusian to the Australian Open title.  While the other top players around her have more power, Radwanska is more tactical, perhaps with a quicker thinking tennis brain. Has improved her consistency immensely and could spring a surprise in search of her maiden Grand Slam title.

Angelique Kerber 25/1
The young German and a player with definite rising stock in the game, should go deep into the tournament. The tall, powerful ground-stoke player had a career year in 2013, breaking through and climbing to a tremendous ranking of fifth in the world. There is still so much to come from her and she has already proven that she can beat the best in the world. Had a good run to the semi finals of Sydney as a warm up. Will get better the longer the tournament goes for her.

Li Na 16/1
Like Radwanska the affable Chinese star had a great start to 2013 and will hit Melbourne Park in fine form. She was unbeaten in the season, taking a title in China before losing to Radwanska in the semi finals at Sydney. Looking strong and reached the final here in 2011. Has a game well suited to Australia and with her early season form, could impress. Never gives up and can be an awkward opponent for the top seeds.

Dominika Cibulkova 100/1
The Slovakian has perhaps started to hit her true potential. Ranked 15th in the world, Cibulkova is simply a little power house at just 5’ 3”. She was moving so well in Sydney where she knocked out three of the top seeds in the run to the final. She is all power and beat Petra Kvitova, Sara Errani and Angelique Kerber in Sydney. That is the confidence which should let her have a good run at Melbourne Park. Highly unlikely to go all the way, but worth watching in match betting.
