2018 US Masters Darts Preview – July 6th, 2018

We have some darts action to dig into this weekend as the US Masters takes place in Las Vegas, starting on Friday. Michael van Gerwen is the reigning champion and it will be a surprise to absolutely nobody that he is the outright favourite at 4/7 odds* (betting odds taken from July 5th, 2018 at 7:05 pm) to get his hands back on the title at the Mandalay Bay.

The US Masters is a new thing on the circuit and this is just the second edition. It is just a sixteen man tournament with the top eight from the PDC heading out across the pond to take on the top eight North American players. The event starts on July 6 and finishes the next day, so it is a short burst of action over four rounds.

PDC Representatives

Michael van Gerwen (1st seed)
Peter Wright (2nd seed)
Rob Cross (3rd seed)
Gary Anderson (4th seed)
Daryl Gurney
Gerwyn Price
Michael Smith
James Wade

So there is a great crop of players from the PDC heading over and it would be a shock if it wasn’t a PDC player winning this. Again, that seems to solely rest on the shoulders of Michael van Gerwen. The top four seeds each go into a separate section of the draw and then the rest of the first round places are just from a random draw.

The North American representatives are made up of four qualifiers and the top four from the North American Order of Merit. In last year’s edition, six of the eight North American players fell at the first hurdle with only Dawson Murschell and Dave Richardson (both of which are back for this edition) making the quarter-final stage before tumbling.

US Masters Darts Winner Odds*

Michael van Gerwen 4/7
Gary Anderson 11/2
Rob Cross 6/1
Peter Wright 7/1
Daryl Gurney 22/1
James Wade 40/1
Gerwyn Price 50/1
Michael Smith 125/1
Dawson Murschell 150/1
Bar 300/1

US Masters 2018 Darts Prediction

It is a short tournament and it is not exactly hard to see Michael van Gerwen winning four matches on the bounce to collect the title. Aside from the odd blip here and there like in the Danish Open, he is pretty much unstoppable. His fast-paced heavy scores just overwhelm opponents and there’s not likely to be anything to stop him in this one. Back MVG outright.
