2018 Winter Olympics – Womens’ 15km Biathlon Odds and Prediction

Dahlmeier to dominate gold medal race

Olympics

There is British interest on February 14th at the Olympic Games as Amanda Lightfoot goods in the Women’s 15km event. This a beast of an endurance race where the competitors will ski and shoot their way to success. However, the 31-year-old really isn’t on the radar for even a top ten finish at the tournament.

The event’s front-runner is Laura Dahlmeier who is the 4/5 odds-on favourite at Paddy Power to claim gold* (betting odds taken on February 12th, 2018 at 8:59 pm). She is light years ahead of the rest of the competition and she has become double Olympic champion after winning the 10km pursuit in Pyeongchang.

The German star had held the lead after winning the 7.5km sprint and delivered the sprint-pursuit double by a margin of 30 seconds. This is an epic athlete and she is dominating the sport at the moment. She took all but one of the six gold medals that were on offer at the 2017 Biathlon World Championships and in the event in which she didn’t get gold, she got silver.

So she goes again on Wednesday for more Olympic glory to add to her illustrious career and it hard to see just where a challenge, a serious one, is going to come from. Her main competitions, Anastasia Kazmina, Darya Domracheva and Dorothea Wierer are all 10/1 shots at Paddy Power behind Dahlmeier for the event* (betting odds taken on February 12th, 2018 at 8:59 pm).

Anastasiya Kuzmina is experienced with four Olympic gold medals so far her in career. She won the Sprint gold at the 2010 and 2014 Olympics but only finished 13th this time around. However, she did land the silver in the spring at Pyeongchang with the second place finish behind Dahlmeier in the pursuit. She will bring plenty of experience to the table but is lacking the speed over the course compared to the favourite.

Darya Domracheva collected three gold medals four years ago at the Winter Olympics, cashing in on the Individual, Pursuit and the Mass Start. Her 2018 world cup form doesn’t really suggest that she is going to get too close to challenging for a gold but isn’t a bad shot for a place on the podium which would feel like a win considering she missed the entire 2015/16 and struggled on her return the following season.

Italy’s Dorothea Wierer is in her second Olympic games and four years ago she came away with a Bronze in the mixed relay. She doesn’t have the track record in her career like Domracheva and Kuzmina has been going well in the World Cup this season through consistent performances.

Predictions

Laura Dahlmeier is as strong as a banker as you will see at the Olympic Games 2018. She has the power, the winning momentum behind her and it is going to be a huge shock if she falters in this one. Of the chasing pack, look for Dorothea Wierer to pull something together to get herself up on the podium as the chasing pack looks evenly matched.
