England get a favourable draw in next year's T20 World Cup

Cricket Betting

England (a general 5/1) will face India, South Africa and Afghanistan in the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia next year but won’t know who their first opponents, at the new Perth Stadium on October 26, will be. That first Super 12 match will be against one of the two qualifiers who will make up Group 2, possibly Bangladesh or Sri Lanka.

The first round of the tournament begins on October 18 in which eight teams, including Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, will split into two groups and compete for the final four spots in the Super 12s. The other six countries are yet to be determined.

Eoin Morgan’s side were the beaten finalists in 2016 when a costly final over, bowled by Ben Stokes, cost them victory against the Windies, for whom Carlos Brathwaite proved a hero. Stokes and Brathwaite are currently locking horns in a Test series in the Caribbean and will also contest a one-day series in the coming weeks, as well as three T20s. The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup does, of course, take place in England this summer.

Hosts Australia will get the Super 12 fixtures under way against the world’s current top-ranked T20 team, Pakistan (14/1 with Betbright), with reigning champions the Windies (10/1 with Betway) also in Group 1 along with New Zealand.

The top two from each Super 12 group will progress to the semi-finals, the first of which will take place in Sydney on November 11 with the second in Adelaide the following day. The MCG wil host the final on November 15.

England’s Women also appear to have a potential easy draw in their own T20 World Cup next year. Having lost to Australia in the final of the 2018 tournament, England will be aiming to go one better and will begin next year’s challenge against South Africa with further matches against a qualifier, Pakistan and the 2016 winner West Indies in Sydney.

Australia are currently the top-ranked team in T20, ODIs and Test cricket, however, and will be very tough to beat on home soil. Their group contains India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and one of the qualifiers. The 202 Women’s T20 World Cup takes place in February and March of next year.
