The event starts on July 31st after having been called off from it’s usual April slot. The final will be played on August 16th.

The top tournament at the Crucible will be taking centre stage over the next couple of weeks as the top players go for one of the biggest prizes in the game.

Returning to the tournament as the current reigning champion is Judd Trump who is the 5/2 outright favourite for this year’s title too* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 21:12 GMT on Thursday, 30th July 2020).

2020 Snooker World Championship Info

The draw sees 32 players lining up for the start of the tournament with several different qualification routes having settled the places.

The top 16 of the 2019/20 Snooker world ranking automatically were handed places at the event and they make up the seeds for the draw.

First-round matches are the best of 19, second-round matches and the quarter-finals are the best of 25, the semi’s over the best of 33 frames and the final itself the best of 35 frames.

Judd Trump 5/2 in Snooker World Championship odds to retain title

Judd Trump made his World Championship title breakthrough last year as he easily got the better of John Higgins in the final.

Trump collected an 18-9 success in that match, in what was his second World Championship final.

He really hasn’t looked back since in terms of form and titles.

Trump has won six ranking titles this season, creating history for the most in a single campaign and he is clearly the one to beat.

Trump is the current 5/2 outright favourite* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 21:12 GMT on Thursday, 30th July 2020) and the last action that he has was the 2020 Tour Championship when he fell in the semi-finals.

In his last three ranking events, Judd Trump has won two titles and that semi-final place.

Will Ronnie O’Sullivan turn up focused?

Five-time World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan has been vocal about his disapproval of letting fans attend the tournament at The Crucible.

So while he is still one of the big threats in this field, punters would have to question whether or not he is likely to be fully focused.

Is a potentially disgruntled O’Sullivan a big enough of a price at 9/2 to take on in this market* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 21:12 GMT on Thursday, 30th July 2020).

O’Sullivan had a major shock exit in the first round at last year’s renewal, going down 10-0 against amateur James Cahill.

“The Rocket” has collected one ranking title win this season, which was at the 2019 Shanghai Masters.

Neil Robertson the value pick?

Australian Neil Robertson should be a contender in 2020 World Snooker Championship odds from 5/1* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 21:12 GMT on Thursday, 30th July 2020).

He has really been the only one to have a standout campaign besides Judd Trump.

Robertson collected the European Masters and the 2020 World Grand Prix with a loss in the final of the 2020 German Masters sandwiching those results, when he went on a really hot streak earlier this year.

He is a former World Champion, having won the top event in the 2009/10 season. But only once since then has he been back to at least the final four.

Still, it arguably looks as if there isn’t a better pick out of the entire field beyond the favourite, than second seed Robertson. He is, incidentally, in the opposite half of the draw to Trump importantly.

Mark Selby to rediscover top form?

Selby has had something of a difficult time over the second half of the 2019/20 snooker season.

He came out of the gates firing and picked up a couple of ranking events along the way at the English Open and the Scottish Open.

But after that Scottish Open success, he appeared to go off the boil a little bit.

Selby did show a glimpse of more promising form when he reached the semi-finals of the 2020 Tour Championship in June.

As good a player as any on his day and the “Jester from Leicester” is a 10/1 poke to claim the title* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 21:12 GMT on Thursday, 30th July 2020).

2020 Snooker World Championship Odds – To Win 1st Quarter

The draw has to be looked at of course and heading up the 1st Quarter is Judd Trump.

As he’s the tournament favourite, he is also the top pick to win this section at 8/13* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 21:12 GMT on Thursday, 30th July 2020).

There does appear to be a favourable draw ahead of him, opening against Tom Ford and then facing either Yan Bingtao (16) or Elliot Slessor in the second round.

Kyren Wilson could be the big danger in the draw having received a bye straight to the second round.

2020 Snooker World Championship Odds – To Win 2nd Quarter

Mark Allen 6/5
John Higgins 9/4
David Gilbert 9/2
Jack Lisowski 9/1
Anthony McGill 16/1

The second quarter of the 2020 Snooker World Championship draw is wide open.

Mark Allen leads the way as the 6/5 odds-against favourite* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 21:12 GMT on Thursday, 30th July 2020).

While he should certainly rattle the crossbar, fifth seed John Higgins is in there along with a couple of dangerous floaters in David Gilbert and Jack Lisowski.

Higgins has consistently hit the quarter-finals in his last four ranking events. He’s the better value pick at 6/5* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 21:12 GMT on Thursday, 30th July 2020)

2020 Snooker World Championship Odds – To Win 3rd Quarter

Ronnie O’Sullivan Evens
Stuart Bingham 3/1
Ding Junhui 4/1
Mark Williams 7/1

So the big question here is of course, is it worth opposing O’Sullivan at Evens?* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 21:12 GMT on Thursday, 30th July 2020)

It is a little bit of a tricky section that he has to deal with. To start with O’Sullivan opens against Thepchaiya Un-Nooh which is by no means the easiest tournament opener.

He could then find Ding Junhui in his way before hitting the quarter-finals where current Master champions Stuart Bingham or Mark Williams could be waiting.

We think there’s a risk of O’Sullivan falling early and would swing towards Stuart Bingham.

2020 Snooker World Championship Odds – To Win 4th Quarter

Neil Robertson 6/5
Mark Selby 5/2
Shaun Murphy 7/2
Barry Hawkins 8/1

Down in the bottom half of the draw is where second seed Neil Robertson is.

But Mark Selby is also there, so this makes the fourth quarter betting of the 2020 Snooker World Championships the most interesting.

Assuming we get to see a cracking quarter-final showdown between those two at the Crucible, which of them is more likely to prevail and get through to the final four?

For us, that would be Robertson. He has been just that touch more consistent this season.

2020 Snooker World Championship prediction

Given the form that Judd Trump has produced this season, he should be the top pick for snooker betting and we have to be on board with that.

He’s got an easy quarter to get through and will likely charge along nicely as the reigning champion.

But that pressure of being the reigning champion is there.

So we are actually going to give him a pass and lean on the much more favourable price of 5/1 on Neil Robertson.

Yes, he may have to go through three-time World Champion Mark Selby to get there, potentially even Ronnie O’Sullivan, but the Aussie has had a composed season and could strike.
