2021 Masters Darts tournament info

There has been a big change in the set up for the Masters Darts tournament. That’s because the field has been expanded to 24 players from 16.

This is the first major change that the tournament has taken on since it was first competed for in 2013.

How that works then is that the top eight seeds will start their campaigns in the second round of action.

Therefore the draw opens up to potentially some upsets in the first round.

There six Masters debutants entered for the 2021 edition, with Glen Durrant being the big name.

He’s joined in the draw for the first time by Dimitri Van den Bergh, Krzysztof Ratajski, Jose de Sousa, Jeffrey de Zwaan and Chris Dobey.

Peter Wright 7/1 to defend Masters title

It is Peter Wright then who has all the pressure on him of being the defending champion.

There is a quote of 7/1 in Masters Darts odds for “Snakebite” to successfully defend* (betting odds recorded at 23:12 GMT on January 21st, 2021 at Bet365).

It has been a big twelve months or so for Peter Wright, who won the Masters, the World Championships and the European Championship.

The Scotsman also reached the finals of the World Series Of Darts, The Premier League and the Players Championship finals.

So he should be a threat in the field.

He is third seed for this year’s Masters and will face either Krzysztof Ratajski or Simon Whitlock in the second round.

The big issue further down the line could be a semi-final meeting with Michael van Gerwen.

Wright has not had an exit earlier than the quarter-finals in any of his last six Masters appearances.

First and Second Round Draws

With a look ahead to what could potentially be in store for the top eight seeds in the Masters Darts 2021, here is the who could face who.

(1) Gerwyn Price v (16) Joe Cullen/(17) Stephen Bunting
(8) Gary Anderson v (9) Michael Smith/(24) Adrian Lewis
(4) Rob Cross v (13) Glen Durrant/(20) Mervyn King
(5) Nathan Aspinall v (12) Ian White/(21) Mensur Suljovic
(2) Michael van Gerwen v (15) Jose de Sousa/(18) Jonny Clayton
(7) James Wade v (10) Dimitri Van den Bergh/(23) Chris Dobey
(3) Peter Wright v (14) Krzysztof Ratajski/(19) Simon Whitlock
(6) Dave Chisnall v (11) Daryl Gurney/(22) Jeffrey de Zwaan

Gerwyn Price 3/1 in Masters Darts odds to add to World Championship title

The newly crowned World Champion Gerwyn Price will step into the action at the Masters under some of the biggest scrutinies of his career.

There is a lot of pressure that comes from major titles, and Price recently grabbed the biggest of all earlier this month.

The Welshman is the top seed for the Masters and there could be a massive head to head with Gary Anderson to come in the quarter finals.

That would be one to look forward to.

Price is 3/1 to win outright in Masters Darts 2021 odds* (betting odds recorded at 23:12 GMT on January 21st, 2021 at Bet365).

This will be just the fourth appearance at the Masters for Price, who has not been past the quarter finals before.

Will Michael van Gerwen rediscover form?

The 2020 calendar year was a decidedly below-par one for Michael van Gerwen as he collected only two ranking titles.

Those were at the UK Open and the Players Championship Finals.

In last year’s Masters, he took a shock first round exit after starting the tournament on the hunt for his sixth-straight title.

So yes, there is big Masters darts history there for Michael van Gerwen.

The Dutchman is the 5/2 outright favourite in Masters Darts odds* (betting odds recorded at 23:12 GMT on January 21st, 2021 at Bet365).

So despite a poor twelve months by his usual high standards, the bookmakers are still cautious about him.

Michael van Gerwen fell in the quarter finals of the recent World Championships.

Can he find his best and nail that sixth Masters crown?

Key Facts – Dars Masters 2021 Betting Tip

  • Peter Wright is the defending Masters champion
  • Michael van Gerwen has won five of the last six editions
  • There are 6 debutants as the draw is expanded from 16 to 24 players

Gary Anderson poses a threat in the field

“The Flying Scotsman” Gary Anderson will have been pleased with a big return to form at the recent World Championships.

The Scotsman reached the final where he came unravelled against Gerwyn Price.

But still, that was a big effort from Anderson, some of the best, most consistent throwing we have seen from him in the last couple of years.

He did reach the semi finals of the Master last year and he has a good track record at this event.

Anderson has been to the semi final three times and the final once in his last five Masters Darts appearances.

But the title has so far eluded him.

A potential early quarter final clash against Gerwyn Price could be a stumbling block.

So that leaves Anderson out at a big 14/1 quote to win outright in darts betting* (betting odds recorded at 23:12 GMT on January 21st, 2021 at Bet365).

Durrant can make his presence felt

Glen Durrant could be a big dark horse in the field as he enters the Masters for the first time.

“Duzza” has extra work to do as he starts in the first round, not being a top-eight seeded player.

He is the current Premier League champion after a superb campaign.

His World Championship bid ended surprisingly early in the fourth round.

But Durrant is one that the top seeds won’t fancy facing.

Durrant would be coming in as a big 33/1 each-way shot to pull out the title at Milton Keynes* (betting odds recorded at 23:12 GMT on January 21st, 2021 at Bet365).

The Asp has plenty of bite

Nathan Aspinall is another to watch because he does get the benefit of a decent draw. He could face either Ian White or Mesnur Suljovic in the second round.

Aspinall could face either Rob Cross or Glen Durrant potentially then in the semi fails.

But Aspinall is not one to quickly dismiss at 16/1 odds* (betting odds recorded at 23:12 GMT on January 21st, 2021 at Bet365).

“The Asp” reached the semi-finals on his Masters debut last year and reached the final of the Premier League as well.

He will be looking for a big boost after losing in the third round of the World Championships.

Rising Belgian star Van den Bergh to shine?

The other name on the list for the ones to watch will have to Dimitri Van den Bergh who is trading surprisingly well at 16/1 in the outright for darts betting* (betting odds recorded at 23:12 GMT on January 21st, 2021 at Bet365).

He is one of the debutants in the field but showed last year that he is becoming a rising force in the game.

The Dreamaker won the World Matchplay last year against the odds and reached the semi-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts as well.

He opens in the first round against Chris Dobey and a win there puts him through to match against James Wade. Those are winnable fixtures.

Masters Darts 2021 Odds Predictions

We think that the top half of the draw is the stronger of the two. There is Gerwyn Price, Gary Anderson and Nathan Aspinall all up there.

So the first of our darts betting options is going to be a Top Half selection on the winning half at even money* (betting odds recorded at 23:12 GMT on January 21st, 2021 at Bet365).

The below-par form of Micahel van Gerwen in the bottom half of the draw just about does that for us.

As for an outright winner, we can’t look past the winner of the potential Gerwyn Price v Gary Anderson semi-final.

Anderson is the one with the better track record at the Masters really but will he be able to gain revenge if need be against Price?

We actually liked the way Anderson handled himself at the recent World Championships and for a 14/1 each-way shot, tickles our fancy* (betting odds recorded at 23:12 GMT on January 21st, 2021 at Bet365).
